Discovered cause of my CTD / instability

Initially skyrim was very stable, then as more mods come out and patches update it became unplayable.

Since using nvidia inspector and monitoring my VRAM use I've discovered when I hit 3gb on my 3gb GTX 580 sli it crashes. No stuttering or slowing down, just instant crash.

I have 88 mods installed, and just about all of them texture mods. I changed a few from the highest res 4096 to 2048 and some from 2048 to 1024

My ugrids at 7, and AF 16 and AA x2 on 2560 x 1600 and I've got it peaking at 2800mb VRAM use, and not a single crash.

I'm sure people with only 1gb or 2gb cards are probably doing the same thing and thinking it is the Bethesda patches.

I personally don't (I learned this for Oblivion with QTP3 lite), I have a 1gb card. I noticed I could run some high res. textures like 2048 skin textures and some higher res. armor retex.'s(on Oblivion, not Skyrim), but nothing large scale. I thought with a 3gb card you would be able to run anything you wanted (on a lower screen resolution), and am still thinking about getting a HD 7970. I've seen a few trying to run every HD texture they can find without having the hardware to do so, but mainly those new to using mods, and\ or knowing very little about their hardware.

I have an overclocked hd5870 1gb with a bunch of high res texture mods and my game never crashes. It averages 38 fps and rarely stutters. I don't get how you're managing to use up 3gigs of VRAM...

Shame everything looks so crisp at the native resolution on the 30" dell at 2560 x 1600. If I drop down to 1920x1200 I can run all the mods, and increase AA but it just looks soft as I'm so used to the higher res
