So I Want to do a mod...

Hello all...

I've been out of the modding / content creation community for a while, but I'm looking to get back into it. I don't even have Xfire on my current machine if that gives you an idea of how long I've been gone. 99% of my modding and content has been done for Halo CE (custom edition, not combat evolved). If you're familiar with that community, you might know me as Tarzan or {MBA}Wraith.

Before you ask, I did indeed look through the stickied posts about beginning mod creation and not to be a complete and utter n00b and be like: "Z0mg, I want to make 1337 h4x0r stuff to make big explosions like tamriel is getting hit my meteors o.0 !!!11!"

So why am I posting asking for advice? I want to know what works best for experienced modders, but modders that might not be familiar with Oblivion Modding. I'm familiar using some of the following common programs:

3dsMax 9

GIMP

Photoshop

Paint Shop Pro

Gmax

Notepad --> Hexdec

I've also worked with script exporters for 3ds and gmax, but I don't WRITE them... I've worked with a command line compiler for Halo CE, and the world-populating software for the same, so I'm familiar with the basics of modding, but like I said, not the basics of modding Oblivion.

For my first mod, I'm thinking of something simple like adding LOTR-style engravings to swords or creating some simple magical items to place in the world, things specific to guilds - like the Bag of Holding would be great for thieves... A hood that gave a mage dark powers would be pretty cool too.

So basically, I'd just like some advice from experienced modders - what's popular, what's fun, good projects to get myself started on and introduced to the community, etc.

Lastly, for anyone out there who's interested, I can model in high-poly and sealed-world geometry (although from what I've seen in the game, Oblivion's engine doesn't care about sealed-world.). I can also create bump maps and do some decent photo editing, although my creation of photorealistic textures is in need of massive practice. I can also script in HSC (Halo Scripting Code), which is kind of similar to, and based on LISP. So I might be of some help in some areas...
