THJT9
Hi,I've been working on adding back the Bipod to the Sniper Rifle as part of a mod I am working on, but I keep getting strange lighting issues around the center of the gun when it is in game. I have tried re-saving the marksman's stock file with no additional pieces added and nothing else changed-just extracted from the game and re-saved and the issue still appears. I assume I am missing some kind of setting exporting from Nifscope. Can anyone tell me what the issue may be? Thanks. https://imgur.com/0pnfknxAfter Nifscope save. https://imgur.com/jHKzmj9Original untouched version in the same game as the nifscope saved version. ehtyeci
The mesh normals are wrong. It could happen for a number of reasons. The easiest is to try updating your mesh's tangent space in Nifskope.
THJT9
Yeh I thought it might be to do with normals, but updating the tangent space doesnt seem to work. Is there any other way to do it in Nifscope? I could take it out of nifscope and update it in an actual 3D program, but my concern is that if this si a nifscope issues, it wont actually matter. ehtyeci
Have you done any edits to the mesh itself? If not, the simplest fix is to copy over the original mesh through Nifskope. Then add your bipod as a separate mesh in the nif. If yes, you can maybe recalculate normals in your 3D program, but most probably you either need to transfer normals from the original mesh or painstakingly recreate smoothing groups (max) or mark sharp edges (blender). The other options in Nifskope you can try is recalculate based on unweighted face normals (Right click mesh > Mesh > Face Normals). Then there's Smooth Normals which lets you set a max smoothing angle. I doubt these work, since it's standard practice to manually assign smoothing groups / sharp edges. THJT9
No edits to the mech itself, which is the strange part of it. I originally thought it could be to do with me adding the bipod obj in, but if I load the normal stock with no changes, and all I do is re-save it under a different name, the same issue occurs. I have tried those two normals options already and no luck. I guess I will have to take it into Max or Modo in that case and try to fix it. Thanks for your help so far. ehtyeci
Resaving through Nifskope or through your modeling software? Nifskope definitely should not be changing normals even with auto-sanitize turned on. Your modeling software might if you're exporting to nif. I know the max nif plugins are inconsistent across versions. I.e the one for max 18 doesn't add tangent space by default.
