Anim object nif not showing up in first person?

I am making a weapon mod that can change the ammo on a gun, and I wanted to make a display of the currently loaded ammo. I copied the laser grid from the Drillgun nif, and it shows up in third person:

 

But not in first person:

 

Are there some changes I must make to the mod nif? Or is this just something that isn't going to work?

The nif might be 1 sided so the texture only appears from one angle. That is my guess why is first person you cannot see it.
