Wolfboi
Okay, I apparently need help. I have an Automaton issue. I've built a robot workbench thingy in Starlight, which is sorta my main base, with the intention of building a fleet of robots to act as provisioners for all my settlements. I wanted to make my first, name it Sanctuary, and have it go to Red Rocket. Then I'd make another, name it Red Rocket, and have it go to Abernathy Farm, etc, etc, until I'd completed an entire circle around the Commonwealth, hitting each settlement and linking them all together. That at least was my intention. So I made my first guy, named him Sanctuary, chose him as a companion, said it was time to part ways, and sent him to Sanctuary. I then went to Sanctuary so that I could turn him into a provisioner. I found him, but now he's just named Automaton, which is confusing. Still, I made him a provisioner and now I have my first supply route, from Sanctuary to Red Rocket. So, back to the drive-in. Now, there's some confusion here because I ended up going back to earlier saves a couple of times because I couldn't figure out what was happening. So, either I go to the workbench and get the option for making 'Automaton', or 'New Automaton'. Or Ada, but I ignore that one. So I made a new one, exactly like the last, and name it Red Rocket, except it comes out named Automatron. I shrug and send it to Red Rocket. Except it never arrives. I'd seen it get caught in the fence I have around the drive-in, but figured it would find it's way. Apparently not. While I'm at Red Rocket, I see the original coming and going, but no new one. I go do other stuff, and come back to Red Rocket to find a new robot, named Automaton, but it's just a basic, out of the gate one, as if you went in and said make a new one, but didn't customize it at all. So I had that one self destruct and went back to the drive-in and repeated the process. When I get back to Red Rocket next time, I find yet another uncustomized robot, and again have it self destruct. So what the heck am I doing wrong? None of these will retain a name or their customized specs. I've no idea what's happening. I don't have any mods which change names. I don't have any which have anything to do with robots, or the robot DLC at all.
bbiller
Well, I'd check if you've beaten the Automatron DLC quests yet. If you don't know who the Mechanist is, you haven't probably. If the above is the case, you've run into a known bug. The way to beat the bug is to finish Automatron, then build your bots. That solves it for most people. While I have you, is there a way to rename an already created robot?
Wolfboi
Well, I've completed the DLC and I eagerly went and made a new robot and sent it to Red Rocket. Amazingly enough, it actually arrived a couple hours (gametime) later. I assigned it as a provisioner between there and Abernathy. So, that bit's working. However, although I named it Red Rocket, it still appeared as Atomatron, which is going to get pretty confusing.
bbiller
Usually the name is set while the bot is in the robobech (what I'll call that robot workbench for now). If the name has reset, call them back to the bench for upgrades and while there, do a rename. That should fix it and there may be a patch in the unofficial patch to fix it, or an author might have one specific to that bug.
