Can anyone help it isn't telling me where to go to get the book.

 

I have the same problem with this, searched UESP Wiki and found it's a radiant quest, so no luck on a definite location, I had just given up on this one, and somewhere along the way it just disappeared from my quest journal altogether, whaaa???

 

EDIT: At some point I saw something about it being at

Labarinthian, so I searched under every rock there and I still couldn't find anything.

@TheSpleen, just to clarify, are you saying that after you talked to and received a scribbled note 'retrieve Shalidor's Insights' quest location

from Urag gro-Shub at the Arcanaeum/College, the quest was not created and is not listed (might be under miscellaneous) in your Quest Journal?

 

Or, are you saying that the quest is listed in your journal somewhere; but, you do not see a map marker location created for the quest?

 

Hopefully it's the latter and you'll just need to select/highlight that quest in your journal (click it) and make it active; then, check your map again,

a map marker location should become visible. Did you get a scribbled note from Urag gro-Shub?

 

fyi, there are approximately 150 possible destination locations randomly selected from by the game; and, there are known bug issues sometimes

with the assigned locations and/or map markers not appearing - find Shalidor's Insights is a repeatable 'radiant' type quest by the way.

If your stuck with somekind of bug, you might be able to clear all stages of that assigned quest using console command: resetquest MGR21

You also might be able to complete this particular assigned radiant quest using console: setstage MGR21 <stage###> commands.

hi, guess you may have been assigned one of the buggy locations for the Shalidor's Insights radiant quests line..

Hard to tell what's going on with your game, ummm again, did you get a scribbled note from Urag gro-Shub?

 

To be honest, avoid taking radiant quests like this until you've completed all other main game quests because of what i would describe as

somewhat faulty Skyrim game design due to the way Bethesda created the open explorable world with overlapping quests/locations/etc.

Without being specific, some of these randomly assigned 'radiant' quest locations, if prematurely cleared,

may cause conflicts and render some main quest scripts/items/NPC's encountered permanently bugged as a result.

 

fyi, please note the Shalidor Insights radiant quests are not a big deal and basically typical (but fun) go fetch tasks with 'special' scrolls as rewards.

If you still want to do these radiant quests i'd suggest you either find the location without a map marker (and hope there is actually a book at that location); or,

force a fix with console 'resetquest MGR21' or 'setstage MGR21 <stage###>' to get unstuck and progress.

I do not feel comfortable recommending these kinds of console commands because they can be unpredictable

so please make a permanent game save you can rollback to prior to using these commands.

 

Also, unfortunately as a rule for Skyrim gameplay, it is always a good idea to research a location to make sure there are no other dependant quests

that could be broken if you blindly clear an exclusive quest location without checking it out first.
