StealthCookie
Hello people! Let's get right to it shall we? Basically, I have the idea of creating the helmet using existing items within the game. My thoughts are to combine the Construction Helmet with the black biker goggles used in legion helmets. The problem? Only mods I've ever done involved ticking little boxes in the GECK  . I'm NOT asking for anyone else to do this for me (that's why it's not in the Mod Requests forum). But simply, what do I need to do to accomplish this? e.g. What programs do I use? How would I go about finding the game files found in vanilla? and so on. Yes, they may seem like they are stupid, nooby questions, but I have a hard time finding the way to go about this in the mod wikis. :wallbash: To make things a little more clearer to you guys, here are the two items that I'm yammering on about: Here is good ol' Comps Lewis wearing the Construction Hat: http://images.wikia.com/fallout/images/f/fa/Chomps_Lewis.jpg And I wish to combine them with these Legion goggles, worn here by Vulpes: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110117134811/fallout/images/thumb/a/a9/Vulpes_Inculta.jpg/503px-Vulpes_Inculta.jpg Any tips/steps I need to combine these two? Pelgar
I can't help you combine the two items. I can help you find them though. I found the Construction helmet in the GECK right off, it's ID is HatConstruction. I found it by typing const into the Filter Box then selcting All at the bottom of the Object Window list. (Tip: if you type into the Filter box first then select All the search is really fast. If you select All first it seems to take forever. I guess searching for nothing is very time consuming!)I have not found Vulpes goggles. I've tried searching for gogg, glasses, shades. My next step would be to go into the game, hit the tilde key (~) to bring up the console, click on Vulpes and type ShowInventory. You'll get a list of everything Vulpes is carrying and wearing. The goggles should be there somewhere. (Tip. use PgUp/PgDn to scroll the list if it's not all on screen). Hit tilde again to close the console. After doing a search in the GECK, assuming something came up in the right pane of the Object Window, clicking on the Form Type header will sort the list by Type. You are looking for the ARMO type for both of these items.Double click an item to bring it up in an Editor. Click the Edit button beside World Model in the Male/Female section to see the item. When I'm browsing around in the GECK like this I always hit the X button at the top of a Window or the Cancel button, if it has one, to close it. The OK button will save any changes you may have made to the object. You may be able to combine the two items in the GECK but I don' t think so. I think you will need to export the two items using FOMM's BSA Browswer, import the .nif files into Blender or another modeling app that will import them, combine the items and export out as a single .nif file. You may want to take a look at this tread for a small taste of what you're getting into. I'm not bad at 3D modeling but knew nothing about Blender when I started that project. Pelgar
StealthCookie, no problem, glad it was helpful. I'm actually trying to get a handle on the Blender to Nif thing myself. I am keeping some pretty hefty notes that I'll probably turn into a beginners level tutor. It'll be titled something like "From Wavefront Object to Blender to Nif"If you're going to give the helmet goggle meld a go I'd be glad to let you check out my notes and see if they are helpful. It would be helpful to me if someone else tried some of it out, I could be the only one it makes any sense to.
