After playing the heck out of Champions of Norrath and playing Morrowind after, i pondered: could Morrowind work online? It is a true roleplaying game in which you are alone and have to fend for yourself, but the thought of explorong its massive world with my buddies is most certainly a thought to entertain....What'r you guys thoughts on this?

Well, balancing issues are certainly a problem, but if the developers take their time(which would be much to our dismay-but it would be worth it) they could create a potentially great package of classic, fun role-playing, and a great online experience. Balancing is difficult, but not completely out of the question. Games such as Diablo have level restrictions, this could certainly help, and anyways, being a noob is a part of the game, they would get good eventually.

This is true, but newbies to the game level up quickly. With the availability of equipment in Morrowind, it would be no time at all before the PC could forumlate a formidable character.

Balancing is difficult

It depends on the method of balancing utilized. If, as in Diablo, higher-level items are disallowed until a certain level is attained, what makes the low-level characters better (namely, artifacts) could potentially be disallowed until much later in the game. But, with more than one player fighting for your side, with human intelligence (suually better than the Morrowind AI) then a balanced game would not be much of an issue.

Morrowind was 2 years in the production- TES IV or any further expansion could take even longer, especially if the data conversion to a multiplayer RPG is used.

Quite true. New characters could always aviod certain challenges that they know are beyond them. And it's no fun to instantly start the game with an experienced character.

A further issue might be quests- mostly the House quests. How could more than one charcter cuild their own manor if there are other players occupying it? Unless all manor cells were unique to the player, that might be a problem.

All good points Cmac, but this manor problem could easily be remedied, im sure the developers could make it so that they are seperate, for one player at a time(almost like items boxes in Diablo-but giant manors instead haha). Maybe thats a little far fetched but hey im just brainstorming.

Basically it comes down to- what are your opinion of online rpg's in general? Do you think they ruin the whole purpouse of the role-playing gender? I really dont think they do, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think, that online could petentially add another demension to Morrowind that would worth houuuuuurs of fun. What do you guys think?
