bben46
If you are using Vista there is a 'feature' Microsoft put in to keep you from hurting yourself. Unfortunately they don't tell you when they stop your computer from doing something you wanted it to do. This is a 'security ' feature that makes it so secure you can't use it. What it does to Oblivion mods is it allows it to look like they were installed properly - the mods show up in the data list, you can check them as active, but it doesn't allow them to work. Here is instructions on how to disable it. Vista users may have to disable a security function known as UAC. If you have downloaded and installed, and the mod is appearing in your Data Files List, but not in your game check to see if UAC is turned on. If so. Look here for instructions on how to turn it off. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-windows-vista/

BrokenSwords
use such a packing tool like winzip/7zp or winrarthe extract ALL files inside into your oblivion/data directory (sometimes you have to move them afterwards as theyre in a nother folder called "mymodsomin" whose content only needs to end up in the data directory) a dagger for example has the following files: blabla.esp --> data directoryblabla.nif --> data/meshes/ directoryblabla.dds and blabla_n.dds --> data/textures directory but make sure they end up in the exact folder as in the archive as the blabla.esp needs to access these files and only looks for them where they belong so most blabla.nifs would end up in a folder like data/meshes/weapons/blabla/ it often does come up with that data/meshes/weopons/soandso/ and when i download another thing it has the same name folders so i have to rename them and it screws up
bben46
The only file in the test dagger is the esp file. I tried to make it as simple as possible as a first mod. The esp should go into the data folder - the complete path is C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data If you put them anywhere else, they will not work. Once it is in the data file, it should show up in the data listing when you start the game - When you start, instead of 'Play' select 'Data Files'The Oblivion.esm (master file) should be marked with an x in the box. click on the box to put an x on the box beside the Bben_Test_dagger.esp click on the OK box at the bottom to go back to the menu - now select 'Play' Go to the Imperial City Market and look on the base of the statue across the street from Edgar's Discount Spells.
