Player House w/Rewards Triggered by Events

So I was playing through Skyrim questing around & got to thinking "It'd be really awesome if I had a house that added rewards for finishing certain quest lines & major events"

So I figured I'd ask here as I've never created a mod before:

Would it be possible to create a player house that has certain triggers built in that when you complete certain quests & events adds rewards to the house? For example you complete the Potema quest line & a display case with Potema's skull shows up. You complete the Thieves' Guild quest line & a shrine to Nocturnal & some Nocturnal & Thieves' Guild banners appear. Kill your first dragon & a dragon skull gets mounted on the wall. Etc Etc I think you get the idea.

I'm a huge fan of the Asteria, Dragon Falls Manor, the Hobbit Hole, & several of the other player house mods & I was wondering if a mod like this was at all possible. I think it would cool to come back from questing & find new additions to your house. I've got a whole bunch of ideas for other rewards as well.

Also possibly NPCs that come with the house both as companions & servants/caretakers, maybe some guards or merchants.

I don't see any reason why it couldn't be done. I'm not an incredibly experienced modder, but I think you would just need a script that would check to see if certain quests were complete and then enable various items in the house based on what quests the player has finished. I did something similar with my Shadowmarks mod. With a house you could probably put the script on a trigger box that would run the check when the player returns to the house.

Sweet. I do use your Shadowmark mod & have rated it up on Steam (Need to endorse it on here :) ) Thanks for the reply.

I'm looking into it with a friend who is at Digipen. Definitely think this would make for an awesome house.

I was thinking of including something like this in the player home that I am working on. It will have a spriggan familiar/spell trainer npc for those who complete the mage college, a spy master/fence for theives guild and a soldier/smith for those who complete the companion quests. I might include a patrolling atronach as a guard, maybe with the occasional burglar breaking in so he can see action.

I'm still designing the home itself and haven't tried tackling npc's and questlines yet. I'm not sure how to do all this but I'm sure with some help from tutorials and these forums it can be done.

I'd be glad to hear any other ideas for features if you have suggestions.

It might be possible we could collaborate together on this project.

  • 2 weeks later...

Here is what I have so far, I've paused working on it at the moment because of Diablo 3 but when I get bored of that game I'll probably get back to finishing this.

First I'll finish up the designing the area itself, then implement the quest and the last thing I'll get around to is figuring out how to make it so these features only appear after the specific quest is completed.
