Too gory or just plain morbid..?

Is it just me or does anyone else think that the beheading that occurs at the start of the game is just a bit too sanitized..?

I bleed more whilst shaving & shouldn't there be plenty of gore (I DEMAND MORE GORE!!) around the neck area..? admittedly you don't get to dwell on it for too long (probably just as well all things considered) and most of us probably skip straight past this bit anyway.. but I personally would love to see something like this implemented.. MWAHAHAHAHA!!

1. Despite what movies and anime tell you, once your head is removed, all bodily functions cease, including heartbeat, gravity would be the only drain at the point for the blood.

2. The neck wound can use some iprovement, but again, look at raw pork, and that's about how we look on the inside, but with blood

On the plus side, in general I was upset there was almost NO dismemberment in a NORSE themed region. Heck, lopping off arms should be an occasional thing.

I still sorely wish Skyrim had similar combat to FONV. Punch things in the face and making their heads explode was a favorite pasttime of mine.

Other than the fact I like gratuitous violence, it'd give combat in Skyrim a much needed revamp.

i could argue that even when the heart is no longer pumping the blood, the average blood pressure (around 2.4psi, not taking into account the stress caused by the execution) would make blood to shoot in all directions like a garden sprinkler...have you seen a real beheading? no, not a chicken or a pork, but a human being.. probably not. but i'm not going to post a video here anyway..all i can say is yes, we need moar blood!

2.4 psi is nothing, youd maybe get a "Blub" as some blood is pushed out, but no real arcs of blood. and Yes, I have seen several beheading videos. From a Russian soldier having his head sawn off (Alive) by the bayonet of a Chechian rebel, to a senator blowing his brains out on live TV (Such videos exist sadly)

The fact is, I've been through this enough on the old Mount & Blade beta forums already. To be blunt, humans are not squishy balloons of blood We still have A LOT of strength and elasticity to our flesh, organ walls, and ligaments/tendons/veins that cover our bodies.

Heck, if you want to argue realism that much, the decapation move were you bash someone in the face with a great axe to make them bend over to the side, then lop off their head is a load of bularky due to the give of the unsupported body would make the body be pushed down only half way through the cut. At most you would get a partial decapation.

TL;DR Human body is stronger then people think. Blood does not pump if the heart stops, only flows somewhat. Reality is never as near or cool as the movies or games.

and i quote:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaishakunin

When the samurai actually performs the seppuku, and after he returns the dagger (tantō) blade back to the cut beginning, the kaishakunin steps forward, letting the katana drop straight through the back of the neck of the dying samurai....The final cut has to be controlled in order for the initial cut to reach only half the neck of the samurai; the final cut, leaving the required skin to hold the head attached to the samurai's body, was performed by a single slashing/withdrawing motion of the katana.

and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seppuku

In the practice of past times, there were instances when the head flew off.

unfortunately i could not find any account of swift beheadings in western history...ritual or otherwise.. perhaps their neck muscles and tendons are stronger than the japanese feudal lords or perhaps the weapons used are never too sharp

Sheriff of Nottingham: Locksley, I'm gonna cut your heart out with a spoon!

Guy of Gisbourne: Why a spoon, cousin? Why not with a sword or an axe or something?

Sheriff of Nottingham: Because it's dull, you twit! It'll hurt more!

that surely explains why is it so dificult for western people to severe the limbs off their fellow citizens

lotsa stuff here

Love that scene!

And as for Samurai, you are speaking of an eastern culture whose weapon loadouts were designed for cloth to leather armored opponents (As Japan suffered from a lot of cultural stagnation, as well as benefitted from it) So the Katana was purely designed for rending flesh and bone (Though it had it's limits, going across the chest or from head to groin, the amount of bone, meat, and sinew would drastically slow the blade before it could complete its journey). You will also note that against European Steel armor, the katana had a high chance of breaking due to it's thin design.

TL;DR Katana was made for cutting people up, every other cultural weapon was made to go through thick forms of armor since Europeans were to War what the Spanish were to MultiCulture Humping

I think beheading are already really gory! I remember when I was looting and checking things with a favourite follower next to me, I accidentally hit the attack button. The camera moved to first person, my follower started yelping something like "No, please! Mercy! NO!" and her head got sliced off her poor neck. I was so freaked out I hit ALT+F4. :teehee:
