paddy118
hey I'm new to the forums and to modding, I was wondering if anyone could help me learn how to use the creation kit to start making mods? I know there is a lot to learn and I'm committed to learning everything I can.
WastelandAssassin
there are plenty of tutorials aroundyou have the wiki site , videos on youtube and written guides around the webbut it all really depends on the types of mods you plan on making , and the tools they requirewhatever the case , first decide on the style of mods you are interested in , and the game for which you wish to modafter you do this , just look up tutorials and guides on the tools you'll need
paddy118
I have been looking up tutorials but the couple I have found on youtube are from about a year ago, I wasn't sure if there was any major updates to the kit since then also I want to try and make a weapon mod to start with and then see how I do and develop from there. WastelandAssassin
I doubt that the creation kit has been updated at all , but I can't guarantee this is trueif you want to make a new weapon (that isn't just changing the stats of a vanilla weapon) you would need a 3d modeling software , a software for making textures , NifSkope to combine the mesh and textures together , and the creation kit to implement the item into the gameso it's quite a lot to learn , so I would suggest you take this with smaller stepstry learning the creation kit , then try making a retexture of an existing weapon , and then you can try making your own new weapon from scratch
paddy118
Thanks mate, I'll start off smaller scale and then work up, thanks for the advice on what I'll need and what I need to learn. I'll go back to basics and work on from there! hopefully all being well I might picking this up in the next few months and have a re-texture sorted soon. any other advice you can give? I'd great appreciate it.
WastelandAssassin
well , I haven't actually done much modding myself , so I don't really have much practical experience , and hence no real practical advice to givethere are plenty of really experienced folks around here , and plenty of them are also very pleasant and helpful individualsso you should feel comfortable approaching people for help , if you have something specific you think they can help you with (of course , try to be polite , and don't expect anything . some people may help you , others may not , but it's usually worth the try in any case)and you should really learn from the experience of others . there are so many people making mods , and showing how to make them (in videos , streams and tutorials) . so there are plenty of sources to learn from . just try to find sources you feel comfortable with , and see how it goes
