New System in The works

Recommended Posts

Been a while since I have posted on here, but here is the rig I plan on building.

and an H60 intercooler. Only thing that concerns me is that ultra 550 watt power supply would that be enough to power this rif O.o

Cant find any any power ratings on that 6970 will do some research though.

Im going with the 2500k because it can still be overclocked liked crazy easily and honestly I dont think the new generation processors are worth investing in yet.

Sure thing!

They work for me though? Anyways

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz Quad-Core Unlocked

Sony Optiarc AD7280S-OB 24x DVDRW Drive (not really a necessary or UNNECESSARY option to the bundle but whatever)

Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Memory Kit

Seagate Barracuda 1TB Hard Drive (Horrible luck with seagate, might just sell it off)

Thermaltake V3 Black Edition Mid Tower Case

Ultra LSP550 550-Watt Power Supply (the only 550 watts is somewhat of a redflag for me)

GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H Intel 7 Series Motherboard (Any word on its OC capabilities?)

Thats all in a barebones kit for 560$ on TD

MSI R7970-2PMD3GD5 Radeon HD 7970 Video Card

470$

Corsair H60 water cooler 50$

All in all about 1,100 minus like 70$ in rebates. I think I could expand my budget to 1,300 maybe. The thing about these barebone kits is that they always seem to be slouching somewhere.

I've considered this one too:

GIGABYTE GA-Z68AP-D3 Ultra Barebones Kit

The mobo is kind of lame.

I can haz runs BF3 at 60fps?

Change to:

2xSamsung DDR3-1333 4GB

Western Digital or Samsung HDD, preferably 2TB

Corsair TX650V2 or TX750V2 power supply

Asrock Pro3 or higher motherboard. Gigabytes are too unreliable. You can pick P67, Z68, Z77, no real difference for your CPU.

Corsair H60 water cooler 50$

It has poor performance that will impede overclocking. Either H100 (which is still only as good as good air coolers) or stick to air cooling, like Thermalright HR-02 Macho.

Why do you need that barebone kit?

*shrug* I thought it saved money?

What's wrong with the corsair RAM?

I actually already have a 1.5 TB Caviar Black WD in my computer now, no real need to switch but I thought about getting a SSD for the OS

Haha. I was actually considering the P877V Deluxe

Cost somewhat of a premium but it seems like a very good mobo

Not sure if Ill be doing multi-gpu not for a long while, might be somewhat redundant :/

Better to focus on getting the right parts from the get go.

Corsair (actually Hynix inside) doesn't overclock, they use all the good chips for higher clock rate products. Samsung overclocks to 2133 about half the time and 1866 the rest. BTW if they have Samsung DDR3-1600, that's fine too. Heatsinks on RAM are just decorations and often interfere with CPU cooler placement.

Get a SSD then, about 120-128 GB is the sweet spot today. Don't go after the most expensive ones, there's no difference in real use. Crucial M4 or Plextor M3 are about the best. OCZ Agility 3, Vertex 3, Vertex 2, even Solid 3 are cheaper and good enough.

aruless: Don't be a fanboy. Asrock mobos, at least mid-top ones, are built on Pegatron factories, same ones that build Asus. MSI is in the middle.

Super-premium motherboards are mostly just a waste of money. A few needless features and up to twice the price - they only exist to fill a niche, i.e. if there's someone who wants to drop $250 ($350, $450) on a mobo, you don't want to let him off for $150 and let the rest burn a hole in his pocket.

Recommend me a mob then? Something under 200 that will OC nicely and what not. What RAM did you have in mind exactly?

Yeah I was thinking about getting SSD atleast to use for OS and other apps, not sure if id store many games on it though. Just depends on the game.

What do you think of the card Im shooting for?

My step dad just got one of these for cooling is his 2500k
