rapotaku
So I have smithing 100 , light armor 100 , heavy armor 16 or something , now when I smith a dragonplate armor it has way less armor than the dragonscale one , so my question is, how the light/heavy armor in the skilltree affects the outcome of smithing???Or does it display the bonuses/perks from the light armor skilltree for me already at the forge menu? But what if I want to make an armor for an follower stronger with heavy armor???usually I thought heavy armor should display more armor than light,at least int he forge menu ? Or am I missing something? T_T I`m a bit confused
Thynar
Light Armor increases the armor gained from Light armor. Heavy Armor increases the armor gained from Heavy armor. So, unless you want to train it up, you should use the scale one
PsxMeUP
You have to put the armor on your follower to find out what rating they will have with it. I have the same problem with weapons.
rapotaku
So the light armor/heavy armor skilltree DONT affect the smithing within, right? I mean, if you have high light armor skillpoints,it doesnt result in being better at smithing light armor.right? Its only displaying the armor value for your character?? CasperTheLich
think of the armor rating you see not as the base value or armor protection... but how much protection your character gains with his or her skill level.
thomriis
Your smithing skill only determines how much you can improve your armor and weapons on a grindstone/workbench, and of course what types you can make depending on what perks you choose in your skill tree, the smithing skill does not affect the armor rating or weapon damage when you craft them at the forge, when your smithing skill reaches 100 you can only improve the armor rating/weapon damage further with fortify smithing potions and enchanted head/arm/neck and finger equipment. then there are your light/heavy armor and one/two handed skills which can improve armor rating/weapon damage further if you choose the perks that improves them by 20%,40%,60%,80% and 100%, I dont know what the max armor ratings are but my full set of daedric armor gives me around 800 in armor protection. Hope i helped you a bit and please reply me if you got more questions

Now you get it. The dragon scale has more armor DISPLAYED because of your higher skill in light armor. If you had the same skill in light and heavy armor, the dragon bone would display a much higher armor rating than it does with your heavy armor at 16. Here's an idea, craft some dragon bone, put it on, and level up your heavy armor a few times. It will now display a higher armor rating than it did before. Than when you smithed it in other words.
