Rise of the Fantasy Genre in Art

I need help on the topic of art history. Can anyone direct me to or tell me a bit about the history of fantasy genre and how it came into fictional works and art, and gaming?

I'm not sure if anyone ever saw a certain car commercial, where they are playing the song "Baracuda" and the ending phrase is "Rejoice with the Van Gods," but it reminds me alot about the popularity of fantastical femme fatale art that was gaining popularity in late 80's (I believe, not sure). If you need a memory refresher, think of the art in Metal Queen Boutique mod. These sort of images typically portrayed scantily clad women with swords or axes, and could be accompanied by a dragon and so forth.

If anyone happens to know a bit about this era of art genre, please briefly discuss it on this thread. I'm sure many fans here of fantasy and/or art history will appreciate it, thanks.

Yes this style of art was inspired throgh comic book artists, such as the man who created the American superhero, "Wonderwoman" The artist had an interest in drawing pictures that displayed forms of bondage and domination. Even in his modest drawings that featured his charachters, there was always a subliminal message that displayed such acts. Later in the 1970's or 1980's, Conan The Barbarian helped introduce fantasy-esque features when the character "Valeria" was introduced.

Some may remember the time when the original Dungeons and Dragons came out. Many Artists and Writers made books that involed similar aspects. The Illustrators combined the classic female heroes, with the bondage of course, with the Dungeons and Dragons idea of fantasy. When you comine those you get a woman that looks attractive and wearing skimpy barbarian outfits locked up in chains, and a dragon near her.

If you would like other examples of this genre of art, The original designer of the familiar swords

"Molotoch, Morthoseth, and Kilgorin" and dont forget the axe, "Volkoth" Those swords are put in the style of Fantasy in every sword replicating website. The swords were featred in comics or pictures like I described earlier. I believe the artist was named Kit Rae.

I think the artwork is, or atleast "was" creative and artistic. I liked the style of weapons and books that used that genre. Notice how you see a lot of clothing and armour mods that look identical to these classic illustrations. No doubt that their work was inspired by these pictures.
