TrueFusion
Okay When i first got the game when it came out it worked find on my computer. Everything was great. Year before last I upgraded to Win7. This has been the only change on this system. I tried to reinstall the game and it seems to work at first. Then when it patches or mods or anything else the game stops working. WTF? I need some help. I tried reinstalling in a new directory several times and that didn't work. What else can I do?
Werne
What are your system specs and could you post your load order?
TrueFusion
Okay like I said the only change from when i first got the game was upgrading the OS from Vista(64bit) to 7 Professional(64bit) The system's specs did not change at all. Core 2 duo CPU8gigs of ramRadeon HD 4870 512MB Video CardABIT IP35 Pro XE LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard and it's crashing with only the game and the DLC no mods added yet. The game plays once and then tries to patch. After the 1.7 patch it wil not start again.
Werne
Try reinstalling the game, patch the game with Bethesda's 1.7 patch and then install the DLCs. Then run the game and pray. By the way, judging by the fact that the game automatically updates I'd say it's from Steam so I'm not sure can it be updated by the update I linked. It wasn't via steam and I tried installing the patch first and that made it crash as well. edit: I tried again with a clean install. Install the game and it runs. I exit out. I put in the patch. Crash. Edited May 6, 2012 by Fusion Blaster
Werne
What's your game directory? If it's in C:/Program Files try reinstalling it in C:/Games. I know Windows 7 has some sort of a protection for Program Files that tends to mess things up.

I know Windows 7 has some sort of a protection for Program Files that tends to mess things up. I just made a folder as C:/Bathesda softworks. And as i stated in the previous post after i put in the 1.7 patch from the site the game broke. I try to start the game and it just refuses Edited May 6, 2012 by Fusion Blaster
davycrockett
"upgraded from vista 64 to 7 64 " FO3 IS XP/VISTA Im unaware if there is a windows 7 64bit version possibly a steam version ? but try running it in compatibility mode for vista (might have to try one of the several sp options ) go to the games .exes right click >properties tab>compatibilty>run in compat mode for vista i find this works fine there is also XP mode which requires a virtual machine but is limited by the fact that its parasitic ( not harmful just runs inside the win 7 environment ) and the host machine retains full control over gpu etc meaning gpu intensive applications just wont work NEVER EVER install games to program files x86 ( ie not in the same location as your O/S ) always install outside of UAC control namely on a secondary drive this will minimise issues . and dont use unofficial patches more trouble than they are worth get the genuine one from bethesda . What exactly does Fallout 3 do, if you run fallout3.exe? If it starts, but crashes later, you may need to edit your ini for a quad (google, "fallout 3 quadcore fix"). If it doesn't start at all, but the patch applied successfully, I don't know...maybe try upgrading video drivers?

I don't even really get any of the logos. I just hear the beginning of the music on a black screen and then it minimizies and I get Fallout 3 has stopped working.
