[LE] Dwarven armor edit in 3ds max

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Sometime ago I have came up with an idea of creating a dwemer character so I have started to look for mods which would fit such playthrough. When I was searching for dwemer themed mods I have found this https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49199 . It adds a new unique set of dwarven armor. It comes with its own backstory, enchantments, quest and boss fight, really cool stuff and exactly what I was looking for. Each element of this mod is really well made with one exception - the armor. I mean the textures are great they are like amidianborn ebony version of dwarven armor set. The problem lies in model of the armor. It lacks weight slider, there are some transparent gaps in the neck area also author of this mod decided to remove pauldrons from cuirass which personally I find to be really good idea (with them dwarven armor looks really bulky). However there is some clipping between shoulder pads and the shoulder itself. It is pretty old mod and I don't think that author is planning to update it anytime soon so I have tried to fix it myself, sadly with poor results. I'm total newbie in 3ds max but I have watched a few tutorials and In order to create fix for the mod I did this:

1. Extracted both dwarvenarmor_0.nif and dwarvenarmor_1.nif from Skyrim - meshes.bsa

2. Imported both of the files to 3ds max and delete pauldrons from the model of the armor as well with clipping shoulderpads, back/front plates from skirt of the cuirass.

3. Exported both files back to nif format, change texture paths in Nifskope and replace the nif files n Data folder.

And it sort of worked. I mean weight slider works, shoulders look fine but there are some transparent gaps in skirt along with strange clipping. At first I thought I have deleted too much when I removing back and front plates from the skirt but everything looks fine in 3ds max. I have no idea why it doesn't work so If someone experienced could help me It would be greatly appreciated.
