dennis71
Hi all! Big problem for me, the game will not save while running mods. Turn them all off and it saves like regular. Right now I'm just running a few mods... NMCs Texture Pack for New Vegas Large Parts 1, 2, and 3. Yukichigai Unofficial Patch Base game and all DLC Colt 1911- 1911_v_1_dot_2 by Millenia Any help would be greatly appreciated!
dubiousintent
Haven't heard of that particular problem before. Nothing about those three mods should be causing it (nor should any mod actually), so the usual suspect would be you don't have enough disk space. The game writes to your "C:\Users\<YourAccountName>\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV\Saves" folder. It also has a limit of 1,000 "saves". Are you getting any error messages? Did you check the Windows Eventlog to see if there were any errors around the same time? Please see the "Windows Error Messages" section of the wiki "How to read most Bethesda game error logs" article. Otherwise, please provide ALL the information requested in the wiki "How to ask for help" article. (In your case, that means hardware, mod manager, and where you installed the game.) Don't forget to identify things that do not appear in the "load order", such as NVSE and it's related plugins and "post-processors" like ENB or SweetFX. -Dubious-
dennis71
Thanks for responding. I'm getting no error messages at all. I do have NVSE 5_1_beta, ENB series falloutnv v0322 and the 4gb Fallout New Vegas mod. All copied into the game folder. I'm running..... i7 6700k@ 4.0 GHz 16gb of RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6gb games on my (c:) drive with 1.14tb of free space. My motherboard is an ASRock Z170 Professional Gaming board. dubiousintent
I am assuming you have verified that you have at least some save game files in your "Users" folder? How are you attempting to trigger a "save" in game? If you aren't getting any error messages, how do you know it isn't saving with mods loaded? Since you already have NVSE installed, recommend you add Mod Configuration Menu (MCM) and "CASM with MCM". Most importantly, completely disable all manner of autosaves in the game options. The CASM and CASM with MCM mods attempt to provide more control over such situations. Simple Saves provides timed interval "full saves" without all the features of CASM, but only keeps 5 versions before it starts overwriting older files after the 5th save. They are all better than the built-in mechanism, but don't rely upon any auto-save exclusively. Manual "full saves" after waiting about five seconds with nothing happening are still safest. Also, you can use Clean Quick Saves to create a new "quick save" file every time, which is safer than overwriting an existing file. You will need to periodically clean old ones out (they count against the total number of save files you are allowed), but the purpose of a quick save is as a "temp" for safety's sake rather than a place to resume the game session from. They do not save as much data as a "full save". QSaves are best reloaded when you are still in the same cell (preferably in the same position) as when you saved. Please see also the 'Fourth Rule: Reloading "save game" files' section of the wiki FNV General Mod Use Advice article. Your hardware shouldn't be the problem. As you have NVSE installed, see the 'Checklist Item #4' entry in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide and enable logging. Verify that it is working correctly with the check described there. Let's see if that logging sheds any light. Again I refer you to the wiki "How to read most Bethesda game error logs" article. I strongly recommend people not install ENB until after they have a stable mod setup (meaning no errors or problems). It doesn't directly affect the game, merely how it gets displayed on your monitor after the game sends the image to the video card. But it complicates diagnosing problems because it does affect how things get seen and you have to base your descriptions of problem upon what you see. Some effects are different from vanilla with "post-processors". Getting ENB to work correctly is entirely separate from the game itself. You should be able to disable it simply by renaming the D3D9.DLL file it installs to something else. Not clear, but you should be using the FNV 4GB Patcher. All the older versions are now deprecated by the authors. -Dubious-
dennis71
Yes I had FNV 4GB PATCHER installed and that seemed to be the problem. I disabled all mods, I'm using NMM and LOOT, deleted and re installed the game. Started the game plain, nothing added, saved 3 times and the saves worked. Installed NVSE, loaded a save, just ran around and saved again, quit to the main menu and the new save was there. Installed the 4gb patcher, started the game, selected the newest save and loaded it up. Again just ran around Goodsprings for and few minutes and clicked save again. Quit to the main menu, clicked load and the save I had just done was not there. Quit the game completely started again, went to load and the only saves present were the ones before installing the 4gb patcher. I hope this is a little bit more clear on what's going on. I just don't get it!!
dennis71
This might have been some important info. I'm using the Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition. Do I really need the 4gb patcher with it?
dubiousintent
Never heard of the patcher causing that problem. The edition of the game won't matter, but where you got it from might. Is this a Steam or a GOG version? The GOG version doesn't need the patcher. It already has the 4GB capability. Patching that again might cause an unpredictable problem. -Dubious-
dennis71
It's the GOG version. After trial and error that was the problem. The game is saving just fine now, with mods running. Thanks for the help!
