bben46
At one time there was a push for sunset laws in some parts of the US. The sunset laws would automatically remove any law that was not enforced over a certain period of time. Typically 7 years. Then the lawyers got into it with 'What if'. such as 'What if the law against murder was not enforced for the 7 years.' and other absurdities. My own preference would have any law not enforced for the specified period to be re-voted on by whatever legislature has jurisdiction (local, state, federal). If it was important enough to be enacted in the first place, then it should be important enough to be re-enacted every so often. This would gradually clear truly dumb laws off of the books while allowing reasonable laws that have not been enforced for a while to stay. (and incidentally keep lawmakers busy enough to limit the number of new laws they stick us with.) I also favor an amendment that would require at least one law to be repealed (or just removed) for each new law to be enacted. And some kind of limit to the absurd number of laws (or to the number of absurd laws)
