Revert Vanilla Gear

So I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice to have a way, particularly for first-time-through-Oblivion players, to get all the mods you want for increasing whatever aspects you desire, but not have to worry if it added things that change gameplay? I know a lot of posts I read say something like "wanted to get this or that kind of mod but was worried about its effect on gameplay/making it easier/harder". So what if there was a mod that searches your entire data folder and removes all non-vanilla quests, armor, weapons, and anything else I'm not thinking of that has a DIRECT EFFECT on ease or difficulty of play. Or one that makes sure you're only doing quests native to vanilla Oblivion. I, for one, wanted to make sure and go through the game the first time (at least) w/o having any real changes to gameplay, but wanted to have some things such as all the texture mods, weather, immersion, realism mods out there to make that first playthrough as amazing as possible. Go any further than armor/weapons/quests and I fear that the mod would remove character made enchanted gear and spells so probably would want to be really careful about how it removes stuff. Honestly this may be a bit too complicated to do w/o removing things like say the coffee/canteen for Basic Primary Needs , or the inventory placed item that has to be picked up for some animation mods, etc. But if there was a way to not have to worry about losing those things, and guarantee that I don't walk across some amazing set of armor that isn't actually supposed to be there at the same time, it would be pretty awesome.

So you want to be able to pick and choose what features are used from mods? I'm not sure what you're asking for.

A simple solution would be to not install mods you don't like or find ones the have only the features you want. You could also edit them out with TES4EDIT, but you have to know what your doing.

If you're a first time player of Oblivion, you should play without any mods (other than unofficial patches and simple armors) Then, find mods for the features you want changed.

Well yeah I'm going through my first time and I've spent the better part of the last two months researching, learning how to mod, learning how to make them work together, etc. etc. Just there are some mods out there that very subtly let you know that there's a quest or a weapon or a piece/set of armor lurking in its files...of course that's really my fault for not reading the fine print on that one when I have double and triple read it all on others. I guess what i was asking for would be a mod to do something like "Scan you data folder -> found armor/weapon/quest that is not in vanilla -> take note of it for reinstallation just in case of an error -> remove that file from your data folder". The more I thought about it, it's probably just way way too much, someone would have to have a data file in the directory of the mod itself that listed ever piece of vanilla armor and weapons, as well as quests, then a (probably very long) scan would need to take place, then if it found ones that are not in its directory it make a note of them and remove it. It's honestly more work and time that it's worth now, it would seem, when one can usually tell if something is from a mod within the game, and then get rid of it themselves, should they desire to. It was an interesting idea but not quite practical or even necessary if one just takes the time to check on things and get rid of them. However, a mod that would be pretty awesome would be a scrolling damage/heal text mod that uses "HUD Status Bars" to display damage taken and healing received above an npc (and even the PC if in 3rd person) head. I've looked into it and there are a few out there but none that are exactly that, there's a decent one that displays the damage in the upper left like all other messages but is both hindered by the slow-ish rolling text up there as well as the fact that it doesn't do spells. I think I'm going to make an entirely new post regarding this, however.

But I do gotta say one thing, once I saw all the enhancements for Oblivion, namely immersion mods such as all the texture packs and graphical enhancers, plus things like immersive interiors and all natural, there's just no way I could have let myself go on my first playthrough without those. Even for someone wanting to experience vanilla oblivion's gameplay for their first time through, those are must-have additions imo.
