FlyIgnite
Well to understand my theory you will have to know a bit more about the last four games since its a continuations of story elements from both games. What begins it all is in the game ESO in the Aldmeri Dominion questline and the main enemy known as the Veiled Inheritance. If you played the game you know that the Veiled Inheritance is a group of purists that want to rid the Summerset Isles of all non-High Elven Races. They use many tactics to try and complete their goals, but the most notable method and what ties this game and the other games is the use of Daedra. High Kinlady Estre leader of the veiled Inheritance and mostly known as The Veiled Queen was a secret worshiper of Mehrunes Dagon and unleashed daedra on the town of Sinyon. Fast Forward years later you get the oblivion crisis and the new enemy is the mythic dawn who like the Veiled Inheritance were worshipers Mehrunes Dagon. They assisted in opening the oblivion gates just like Estre did in Sinyon. Things get even more interesting in Skyrim when you meet Silus Vesuius whos a descendant of surviving members of the Mythic Dawn. This calls into question about survivors in the two groups most notably the Veiled Inheritance. If you read through the lore http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Veiled_Heritance nothing mentions the fall of the group only that they were defeated. There is nothing that connects what I am about to say to the Veiled, but what if after a 1000 years of hiding the Veiled inheritance survived and the surviving members became what is now known now as the Thalmor and are continuing to serve the Daedric Prince Mehrunes Dagon. Before i get criticized let me point out a few things. The Oblivion Crisis which is portrayed only in Cyrodil was actually a continent wide event and all nations of Tamriel had to fight it, and out of all these countries the people of the SummerSet Aisles had the most success fending off the daedra and closing the gates mostly thanks to the group known as the Thalmor who are known to be Pro-High Elven just like the Veiled Inheritance. Fast forward nearly two centuries you have the The Great War between the Aldmeri Dominion lead by the Thalmor and the Empire. The most notable part is when the Dominion takes the capital of the Empire. Lord Naarifin general of the Dominions Armies takes the capital city and attempts to do The Culling. The Culling was a prophesy that to fullfill required many sacrifices to flood the streets of the capital and tamriel with Daedra. If you havent realized it this is exactly what Mehrunes Dagon had attempted in the last three games to conquer the world. Naarifin failed to complete the ritual and was hanged off the golden tower for over thirty days. Some say that he died on that tower but others claim he was rescued and carried off by a winged daedra which further strengthens my point that the Thalmor are some what connected to the Daedric Prince. The war ended with a ceasefire not a peace treaty and both sides agree that the war isnt finished. Thirty years later you have the Concordant that bans the worship of Talos and the Stormcloak rebellion that comes with it. It is quite obvious that the Thalmor deliberately started the conflict to weaken the empire and isolate Skyrim which foreshadows a future invasion and the continuation of the great war. What if the point of this war was to further the goals of the Thalmor and the Daedric Prince Mehrunes Dagon. The Thalmor believe that High Elves are the superior race and that the rest of the races are just trash and should be eliminated, and mehrunes dagons goal is to take over the world using any asset and that asset is the Thalmor and the Aldmeri Dominion. The Aldmeri Dominion and the Thalmor take over Tamriel supported by Mehrunes Dagons power. If this was to pass the goals of the Thalmor and Mehrunes Dagon would be fullfulled. With what was portayed in Legends with Lord Naarifin, the similarities with the Veiled Inheritance, and how the Thalmor and Mehrunes Dagons goals coincide together it calls into question that the Thalmor may be working along side Mehrunes Dagon. (Please have mercy this is my first time making a skyrim theory) Edited May 29, 2018 by FlyIgnite
