Hopefully there will be a BIOS update :wallbash: :teehee:

Lets pray for that bios update.. I really do not want to need a new mobo simply for RAM...

You can't simply update the BIOS for DDR4 the notches in the slot are probably different just like with DDR3 and DDR2.

And I don't know about AMD but Intel will not use it for the next generation. So late 2013 isn't bad

Maybe even 2014 in the successor for Haswell

I'm glad about this, I was planning on getting a new mobo in 2014-2015 anyway, so now I'll be able to get one with DDR4 and be set for almost the next decade with the motherboard. I won't have to buy a DDR3 mobo and have it be obsolete in a year.

All new CPU have integrated RAM controllers, and new motherboards are specific to the CPU. Which means that:

1) You can't, ever, use DDR4 with any current CPU, be it Ivy Bridge, Bulldozer or Fusion.

2) Your can't use your current motherboard will any upcoming CPU like Haswell anyway, even though it will use DDR3.

The only real effect is that you won't be able to bring your current DDR3 into a 2014-2015 PC. It doesn't affect motherboard longevity at all, you have to change it with the CPU.

Yep, not a problem. I won't be sorry to lose my Phenom II. Despite the cool name and good specs, it stutters heavily on any cpu heavy games. Next time I'll buy Intel, when I upgrade my mobo in a couple years.
