TSotP
hi, i was wondering if any of you guys could help me. I've been messing around with the CK and a couple of mods that rely on the vanilla armors. but what i was wondering is if anyone could show me a tutorial that would allow me to create these same models, but textured uniquely. i.e. I want to make the Dovahkiin armor. Which is Iron Helm, Iron Boots and Iron Gauntlets with Studded Leather Armor for the chest. Duplicating it in the CK is easy. And i have found a few fantastic mods that retexture these armors in glorious detail. (HAR, "A complete re-texture for Studded Armor") but i DON'T want every bandit and every cheap thug running around in my beautiful new armor. So i was wondering if someone could show me how to remove these models from the game, direct them to new texture files and put them back into the game as unique. i know that it's possible because there are dozens of mods out there that effectivly do the same thing ('Heroic Dwarven Armor Standalone', 'Ivory Armor', 'Divine Aegis HD', 'Mystic Elven Armor', 'Thalmor Inquisitor Armor') -------- EDIT: For the record, I would not be publishing this armor using other peoples retextures without express permission from the original authors, this is more a tutorial for myself and for personal use. David Brasher
The way it would work is that you would create new objects in the CK to exist alongside the originals. You can do this to an object by editing the original and giving it a new name. When you save it, the computer will ask if you want to change the original object or make a new one. Respond that you want new one. You can do this as many times as you need to for all of your different armors. Then you change the mesh path for these armor objects so that they point to the custom armors rather than the original ones. You will want to get your directories set up the way you want them before you do this. Since you are not doing a replacer mod to overwrite the vanilla armor, you will put the new meshes and textures in different folders or else give them different names. Then nothing gets overwritten and different objects can use different meshes which are using different textures. steve40
There is a better way if you only want to change the textures and not create unique meshes. All you need to do is create a TextureSet that points to your new texture file. Then you create a new Armor form (copied from an existing armor). You can then assign your new TextureSet as an "alternate texture" for the mesh in your copied armor. That way you don't need to create a duplicate of the actual mesh, edit it in Nifskope to point to the new textures, etc. It's a much nicer way  Hang on a few secs and I'll search for the tutorial. Edit: Tutorial is HERE. Follow JADAK's instructions in that thread posted on Posted 19 April 2012 - 03:16 AM .
