NCRForever
I just started playing NV again after years away from it. I only have a few mods installed: Alternate T-51B NCR T-51B NVAC NVSE Weapon Mesh Improvement Jacobstown Player Bungalow The problem is that all major factions, except Goodsprings are initially hostile. These factions should be neutral until I gain or lose karma. Anyway, I made a mod that makes all major factions neutral, which fixes the initial problem. However, after gaining and even losing karma, they stay neutral. So, I uninstalled my mod, thinking the karma would fix itself, but it does't. The major factions return to being hostile. Not sure how to fix this issue. I uninstalled all mods except for NVAC, because without NVAC I can't play NV, just to see if it was one of those mods, even though they don't touch factions, but even without the mods, the factions are hostile. I've tried this with 2 new saves, the second save was completely vanilla and the issue still persists. If anyone knows how to fix this, please help. Thanks in advance. Edit: I've even tried console commands: player.SetFactionRank 000ee68a 1 SetFactionReaction 000ee68a 1B2A4 1But, nothing helps Edited June 2, 2018 by NCRForever
dubiousintent
First of all, you need more than those mods. Please see the 'Maximizing use of memory', 'Third Rule: The Rule of One', 'Essentials for Getting Started', 'Vanilla "Load Order"', 'Game INI files', and 'Restoring to "Vanilla"' entries in the 'First Timer Advice' section, and the 'Towards Game Stability' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article. The mods listed there fix a number of game bugs. As for your "factions" problem, please see the 'Factions, Stealing and Ownership' section of the wiki "Getting started creating mods using GECK" article. It should be apparent from that your "reputation" with each faction is the key factor. The game is not designed to allow you to switch your reputation with various factions around at whim. If anything will enable you to do that within a saved game, it will be the "Fallout NV Cheat Terminal Redux" mod. But as far as I know it only allows you to adjust your own karma and not faction reputation. -Dubious-
NCRForever
Umm... Not sure you're understanding my issue. Even on vanilla, after resetting the .ini the problem persists. These saves are NEW saves. Not old saves. On my very first load of the game after install is when this first happened. I'm also not a "first timer". I am even a modder and I cannot figure out this issue.
dubiousintent
It's not about being a "first timer". It's that we have learned a lot about this particular game over the years. Anyone who has been away from it for a couple of years needs to brush up on things. The wiki ""FNV General Mod Use Advice"" article is intended to refresh your memory and bring the lessons up to date. The faction problem as described does not exist in vanilla with the "essential mods" as far as I am aware. Certainly I never noticed it, but I've always played with those "essentials" installed. So, if it is happening with "new game" saves, and without any of your playable mods above installed, something is badly wrong with the game install or it's due to the absence of the those "essentials". Did you install Steam to it's default location? If so, please see the wiki "Installing Games on Windows Vista+" article for why the original default Steam behavior of installing games to the "C:\Program Files" folder tree was bad (they learned better, and don't do that any more); and why "disabling UAC and running as Administrator" is NOT sufficient, with instructions how to move it. This is the single most important thing you can do to fix and protect yourself against problems in the future. As much of a PITA as that is, it's never going to be any easier than now. Please see the 'Restoring to "Vanilla"' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article as well. -Dubious-
NCRForever
I installed Steam to an external SSD. NV is the only game with issues. Well, I have some issues with State of Decay 2, it continues to break and at times will refuse to reinstall. Maybe this is a Win10 1803 issue. I don't know. FO3 works perfectly after installing Microsoft Games for Windows. I haven't played NV on anything above Windows 8.0 and I never had any issues. dubiousintent
The "Creator" (aka "Redstone") Updates have a history of breaking old games until solutions are discovered. The following entries in the wiki 'Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting' guide specifically address known Win10 problems:* 'Issue: NVSE - fails to load after update KB4058043 to Win10 FCU (v1709)'* 'Issue: Vanilla game Hangs on startup'; specifically "Cause-1" regarding DirectX9 drivers.* 'Issue: "Full screen mode" exhibits CTDs and stutters or micro-stutters'* 'Issue: Recent (post-Win10 FCU) CTDs after 10-20 minutes of play'* 'Issue: Lag or "micro stutters" even with "New Vegas Stutter Remover" installed (or not)'. (Regardless of whether or not NVSR is actualy installed.) In particular "Cause-4" regarding video card settings. The latest video drivers may not be the best suited to an older game like FNV. All vendors drop testing of old games at some point. Backwards compatibility is never guaranteed, much less "optimization".Also, "Cause-7" regarding "Superfetch" and "File search indexing". Windows updates will often reset these back on.* 'Issue: Win10 Screen tearing in "Borderless Windowed Mode"'* 'Issue: ENB Support for Windows versions later than Win7'* 'Issue: Problems using ENB/SweetFx on Windows 10' I keep forgetting that YUP is not in the "Essentials" section of the "General Advice" guide. Primarily because some people still prefer to use MMUE. But YUP is still being updated while MMUE is not. Suggest giving that a try as well. An external SSD shouldn't make a difference (as long as you are not getting any stutter). Certainly not for your faction issue. -Dubious-
NCRForever
Thanks for the help. With YUP installed, my game crashes. I'll load a save and it starts to load and the loading wheel freezes and I get a silent CTD. So, I can't use YUP. I just tried that on a new save. Everything I've tried up to this point:1. Reinstalled Win10 2. Uninstalled New Vegas/Cleaned external SSD of anything related to NV 3. Reinstalled New Vegas 4. Ran NV from the Steam launcher/No mods/Vanilla only 5. Complete ALL GS quests except for:Ghost Town Gunfight.Run Goodsprings Run. 6. Head out into the Mojave7. At Jean's Sky Diving: Hostile markers behind building(Powder Gangers)8. Head to Primm: Hostile marker where the NCR soldier is at9. Get attacked by neutral(LMAO!) NCR 10. Die All of that on a new install of Win10 and NV. I've exhausted all my own ideas and a few from friends on Discord. No love to be had. I think it's time to just put NV back into the attic and forget about it until I'm 81. I'm 71 now. So, another 10 years. Hopefully I'll still be kickin. Edited June 3, 2018 by NCRForever
dubiousintent
Well, I can certainly understand deciding to cut your losses and move on. It's only a game after all. It's just that the older the game, the more likely a newer version of Windows and video drivers won't work with it as well. I really doubt another 10 years is going to help. However, YUP only "fixes" the vanilla game. If it's causing a hang loading, it's either not finding one of the vanilla game master files, or you have them in the wrong load order. This is a well known and limited set of causes. Just realized focusing on the "factions" issue, we haven't seen your sorted load order. Before you give up, download "LOOT" and install it manually to the game root folder (i.e. "<install path>\Fallout New Vegas"). Read the documentation, but copy your LO into a list suitable for posting on forums. (The command to copy this list to your clipboard is under the ":" with three dots to the extreme right in it's menu bar.) Then just click on the "green bar" icon (SpecialBBcode) in the top row of the "Reply to this topic" page, select "spoiler tag", and paste the list from your clipboard in between the "spoiler" tags in the body of the post. Most "mod managers" have a similar "LO List" capability, but you will have to read their tutorials to work that out for yourself. dubiousintent
Nothing wrong there (which I expected, but it never hurts to check). Both hardware and load order should be fine. Though I do note that we used to have a problem with GTX1080ti cards not being able to utilize all of their VRAM, but that was fixed with the new DirectX drivers in the "Fall Creators Update" (FCU 2017; aka "Redstone 3").Let's see if we can't get YUP to load first. Please see 'Issue: Vanilla game Hangs on startup' and similar entries under the 'Solutions to Starting the game problems' section in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide. In particular, I'm wondering about "Cause-1".Move any "inactive" plugins out of the game "Data" folder. They count against the "plugin cap" because they get loaded by the game engine if found, and can cause "Missing Master" problems. Please see the wiki "Missing Masters" article if you get that error message. -Dubious-
