Upgrading my 1215N's memory

I've been wanting to upgrade the ammount of memory on my netbook for a while, but I'm still not sure what I should go for. It doesn't seem to support dual-channel RAM, so I'm not sure what to buy. Either one with 4GB or two with 2GB. Opinions, plox? SO-DIMM DDR3 btw.

I saw some conflicting information looking this up. The ASUS site says only 1x slot on the 1215N but this video (Upgrade memory on Asus 1018P and Asus 1215N) shows 2x.

Yep, two slots. And 1GB in each of them, in my case :ohdear:

 

 

http://ark.intel.com/products/49490 , supposedly, 4GB per SO-DIMM, right? And not total memory. So I could have 2x4GB instead of 1x4GB or 2x2GB?

Why do you you want to upgrade the memory?

 

Are you using memory heavy programs? Have you checked how much ram you use.

 

Netbooks are slow you can't really do anything about that.

 

Maybe a ssd is a more sensible upgrade.

 

And a fresh windows install also does wonders. just get a home premium CD and use the code on the bottom of the laptop

It's not really that slow. When using the 32bit version of Windows, as it doesn't use up as much memory as the 64, it runs fine.

Too expensive and not that much space. I can't afford that hardware right now.

I format both my PCs at least twice a year. I also have copies of both 32 and 64bit versions. Professional edition only, as I get them from MSDNAA.I'm just waiting to make this upgrade so that I format my netbook's HDD again.

If it has two sticks of 1gb just replace one of them with a 2gb stick this will give you 3gb, or are you going to miss that .25gb?

Erik... The 64-bit version of Windows can allocate more than 3.75GB... The harddrive CAN be replaced, but I'd have to open the chassis.

No, no way. Atom only supports 4GB total, you can't have 2x4.

In this case, without dual channel, should I get 1x4GB or 2x2GB? Not sure which one would perform best.

I thought you mentioned that you where going to use the 32bit, sorry

 

And 64bit windows uses about 3.25gb out of 4gb , With 4gb memory 32bit might preform better than 64bit although the difference will be minimal unless you use a lot of specific 64bit application.
