Vashra1
So...got a snazzy new (for me) Evga GeForce 8800 gts 340mbRip out all my driversClean install this thingSkyrimSE loads to a light gray screen - I can hear a few minutes of music - then CTD.Solidly repeatable. Never did anything else.I've tried the last 3 driver versions on Nvidia's site, the driver from Evga's site, the one windows just "finds" on startup with a new vid card.Same. Exact. Problem.I tried marking SkyrimSE and the launcher as win 7 compatible (suggested on steam), tried setting up rules for windows firewall (suggested on youtube), tried reinstalling Skyrim, and also was able to open and function "normally" on this vid card for Mass Effect 3, Portal, Portal II, and Talos.Pulled the bloody card out of my box, went back to my other vid card...and Skyrim is happy(ish).Thoughts? WastelandAssassin
is the game even supposed to work with this card?I mean , 340mb VRAM? if this is true , you shouldn't even be able to run the original Skyrim , let alone Special Editiondo you pass the minimum requirements with your machine? Vashra1
So...I just realized that the outside of this box says NVidia 1050 Ti (which has specs that meet what SkyrimSE needs) - but the number on the *card* in the box says GeForce 8800 gts. Didn't even occur to me at the time to recheck the specs *headdesk*.That's not refurbished, that's fraud.I guess I'll be having a .. chat .. with some folks. Vashra1
Luckily the purchase was through Amazon marketplace, so there's a degree of insurance and legal backing if the seller wants to be ugly about it. I *suppose* they could have just packed/sent the wrong card...I mean, being "refurbished" or "used" - it was probably put through last minute checks...maybe sitting on a table with 50 other cards, but this thing (I looked it up) is *ancient* ... I really can't see how they could have confused the two cards.Still...never assume malice where mistake will do, I guess.Last time I had something like this happen, it took a good 90 days to get things sorted, but that was Ebay and not Amazon so *fingers crossed*.
