how do you get mods to work/activate using NMM

Recommended Posts

hello village idiot here

so i've downloaded a couple of mods for Fallout New Vegas (perk every level + two perk per level) and its showing that they have downloaded they have been put in thee appropriate folder in the mod manager but they're not active in game i've made sure to load loose folders in game yet like i said not working and i don't know where or what i'm doing wrong would it because i have to fire nexus mod manager up in administrator mode as it apparently can't write permission for C:\Program Files \Nexus Mod Manager\Fallout NV\Install Info i don't even know what means bear in mind i'm used to winzip/rar programs where you download, unzip, put it in the mod folder and off you go

first , it's recommended to not install mod managers inside Program Files

so I highly recommend uninstalling NMM and reinstalling it to a different folder in whichever hard drive you wish to use

afterwards , you should really install mods through NMM instead of manually

you also need to activate the mods in NMM , so that their plugins are actually added to your load order

lastly , you need to verify the two mods in question are actually compatible (I've never used either , so I have no idea , but they may not work together)

To supplement that advice, I would like to add that the same applies to installing games as well.

Did you install Steam to it's default location? If so, please see the wiki "Installing Games on Windows Vista+" article for why the original default Steam behavior of installing games to the "C:\Program Files" folder tree was bad (they learned better, and don't do that any more); and why "disabling UAC and running as Administrator" is NOT sufficient, with instructions how to move it. This is the single most important thing you can do to fix and protect yourself against problems in the future. As much of a PITA as that is, it's never going to be any easier than now. Please see the 'Restoring to "Vanilla"' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article as well.

As for your two mods, I didn't find one with the name "two perks per level". I did find a single mod titled "Two Perks Per Level - Perk Every Level - More Perks", and another titled just "Perk Every Level". As a general rule, you do not want to install two mods that effectively do the same thing in different ways (i.e. give a perk every level). They will "conflict" with each other. (It is possible to make more than one mod work with another by means of a "compatibility patch"; but that is another topic.) The first mod is apparently the result of someone deciding to combine the features of three different individual mods into a single one, which is preferable if you want all those features.

You might notice that my references to those mods are click-able links that will take you to those download pages on the Nexus. Your references didn't. Such "links" enable everyone to be certain they are talking about the same mod. Please see the "How to markup images (etc) in forum posts and comments" article on how you can easily do this yourself.
