shadow85
I can run vanilla skyrim with the official highres tex packs, on Ultra settings flawlessly on my rig. But when I add all the HD texture mods out there, like Skyrim HD 1.5, SMIM, 2k Mountains, etc etc, I get very bad performance, especially outdoors. Lots of frame skipping, stuttering, lag etc etc. Why is this so? Is my rig really not good enough: i5-750 @ 3.6GHz2x2GB Ripjaws @ 1440 MHzGb GTX 580 Ultra Durable (296.10 WHQL)Intel 330 SSD 120GB (Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, skyrim all skyrim mod/files)Raptor 150GB Do I have to install the skyrim 4gb patches still or does update 1.5 fix that already? And is there anything I can do to increase performance.
RitualBlack
Update 1.5 makes the 4gb patch obsolete. With the GTX 580 there shouldn't be any performance problems so it isn't likely to be your computer. I would check the load order (try using the BOSS utility) because with Skyrim the load order is surprisingly important. One improperly ordered .esp can be the difference between playing the game properly and getting a crash on startup.
shadow85
im not getting crashes, i just get very bad performance.
RitualBlack
I know, I was just stating an example of how important load order can be. There is no reason a 580 would struggle so it most likely would have something to do with load order. Maybe try using the official HD pack instead of Skyrim HD and use the rest of the graphics mods to try to narrow down the problem. I am not really sure what else it could be  . David Brasher
Some options:Do system maintenance such as defrag and disk cleanup.Make sure you do not have background processes running and are not hooked up to the Internet while playing.Remove all your mods that cause lag such as high-res texture packs.Get more powerful computer hardware. Brucealso
Did you try turning Antialiasing and Anisotropic Filtering off it seems to help a lot.
shadow85
OK I have narrowed it down to Skyrim HD 1.5 giving me the frame skipping, choppy performance. This is what I did, re-installed skyrim, then the official HD texture pack, then Sharpshooters extreme ENB mod, then SMIM mod. I fired up skyrim, and it ran as smooth as butter, very high constant fps. Then I put in the Skyrim 2k HD 1.5 mod FULL, and fired up skyrim, and then bam, extremly bad performance instantly. If this is the case, what sort of graphics card is skyrim 2k HD 1.5 meant for? How can a GTX 580 not be enough? Does any1 else have an equivalent GPU to a GTX 580, or is every1 playing with this mod using something that is > GTX 580? EDIT: with further testing, if I reduced the AA from 8x to off, most of the choppiness dissapears, but there still is some choppiness.
