So an Assassin tried to kill me. I had stolen some things from houses and people. Would that be why a hit was out on me? Otherwise, I'm not sure why there would be a hit out on me. I did kill one NPC. Anise sent thugs after me for stealing from her, so I went up to her and punched her, and then she started casting spells, so I had my character take her out for good.

Dark Brotherhood come after you no matter what you do in the game. Its usually because you've been really good or really bad. Someone just sends them after you randomly. You can just join the DB and it stops it.

Next time search the assassin's body, usually a note of somekind in their possession; unfortunately,

these random Dark Brotherhood assassins carrying a copy of the contract ordering your assassination by Astrid

are worded the same, not specific as to the real identity of the client, or the actual reason for the hit on you.

I often encounter them randomly, usually at the same locations, they just come charging at you out of hiding,

kinda lame combat assassination technique and not challenging, so its obviously an automated event scripted by the game.

I'd say there are probably a lot of reasons why you are wanted dead, I have not discovered if there was a single source requesting the hits.

there was no followthru dialog options that i saw while with the Dark Brotherhood/Astrid that explains who/what it was,

so each of these events and overall concept remains a mystery, left me alittle more disappointed in Skyrim's lack of storytelling depth.

Maybe someone performed the Black Sacrament because you stole from them or killed/cleared a bandit gang or vampire/witch coven,

maybe because you're the dragonborn and not everyone wants your return.

Also suspect politics & power as motive involving the Thalmor Aldmeri Dominion or Riften Black-Briar corruption or

revenge for killing the Redguard Alik'r Warriors.. most/all of the notes leave no clue. Hail Sithis!
