ekt123
HiBear with me because im a real novice when it comes to this :D firstly, does the drive size oblivion is in affect performance? I mean, my oblivion is in drive C: which has only 2gb memory left. my D: has 131gb left. if I transfer it to D: will it improve performance? and, how do I transfer it to D: fully? because ive tried transferring it and I get errors when launching, like missing bink32 if I remember correctly. and ive tried to install it to D: from the DVD but oblivion doesn't ask for a directory :| it just installs itself to C: immediately. im using windows 7, if it matters :)) THANX :*
bben46
If you have less than a quarter of unused space on a hard drive, it starts to slow down - especially when reading & writing large files. Defragging can help some. But if you have a large free drive why not move it. Copying will not work for the game itself - It will need to be reinstalled on the new drive. However, everything else can be copied after the game is reinstalled. Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the WIKI section of the Nexushttp://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Oblivion_reinstall_procedure It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice.
ekt123
thanks a lot :D but is there any easier way where I won't need to reinstall every patch and mod? and when installing, the dvd doesn't ask for a directory :| Edited May 13, 2012 by ekt123
bben46
One of the install screens has the path where it will be installed - just change that path to wherever you want to put it. At various times I had Oblivion on D:\Bethsoft games\Oblivion, D:\Oblivion, D:\Games\Oblivion, G:\Games\Oblivion (a removable HD) and currently - C:\Games\Oblivion - each one required a reinstall. Once you have reinstalled, you will still need to install the latest patch, but only that one. The DLCs may need to be reinstalled, (not positive) but the mods can be copied. If you use a mod manager, you may have to reinstall that also so it can find the game in it's new location. You may need to specify where for the mod manager as it may not be able to automatically find the game if it is not in the more common locations.
