So the update that came through just a few days ago seems to have made it so New Vegas will no longer load past the second screen in the initial launch sequence, normally I play modded but I've un/reinstalled the game and it still crashes with nothing but vanilla assets/esps/esms any suggestions as to how to get back being able to play this wonderful game?

Sorry for the late response. I've been traveling.

Sounds like you have received the latest Win10 April 2018 Update (aka "1803" or "Redstone 4") or possibly the 12 June "KB4284835 (OS Build 17134.112)". Haven't heard of particular issues and solutions with FNV for either as yet, but they will trickle in I'm sure. You can help us track these by reporting what specifically caused and solves your issue. This Computer World feature article tracks these updates and can help you tell which have been installed (compare it's list against your "Control Panel | Windows Updates | View Update History" list).

Meanwhile try some fixes for issues with the previous one (FCU aka "Redstone 3"):

* Did you install Steam to it's default location? If so, please see the wiki "Installing Games on Windows Vista+" article for why the original default Steam behavior of installing games to the "C:\Program Files" folder tree was bad (they learned better, and don't do that any more); and why "disabling UAC and running as Administrator" is NOT sufficient, with instructions how to move it. This is the single most important thing you can do to fix and protect yourself against problems in the future. As much of a PITA as that is, it's never going to be any easier than now. System updates often cause issues with games installed to these folder trees. Please see the 'Restoring to "Vanilla"' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article as well.

* Are you running Win10? Did you get the "Fall Creator's Update" of 2017 (FCU aka "RedStone 3") or later? Do you have "New Vegas Stutter Remover" (NVSR) installed? If all three are "true", then please see the 'Issue: CTD after 10-20 minutes of play (post-Win10 2017 FCU)' and 'Issue: CTD without warning, "Out of Memory error", or stops responding after the Main Menu' entries in the 'Solutions to "Crash To Desktop" (CTD) problems' section in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide.

* If you are suddenly having a "slowdown" or lag; or a lack of sound; or problems getting NVSE to load, or really anything new unexpectedly, please see the 'Issue: NVSE - fails to load after update KB4058043 to Win10 FCU (v1709)' entry in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide. This may be due to a Windows Update for the "Meltdown and Spectre Vulnerabilities".

Well trying to run the game with nothing but the fallout nv esm active and no mods installed, I have it installed to my C: Drive in steam's default location, I'd previously had a well modded game running fairly smoothly but when this started I tried a full delete/reinstall. I'll try moving it to one of my other drives and report how that works out.

Update: After a second clean install, this time on my D drive instead of C the game works again, thank you for your assistance.
