Cant use the quick slots

Can anybody help?. I lent my copy of the game to a friend who lost both the paper map and the manual. At that time I could not get the game to run on my machine.

Now I have a decent spec machine I decided to try out the game again. It runs well but it is annoying not being able to load the quick slots with potions, weapons spells. Can anybody tell me how to access my quick slots!!

In-game, you must push "F1"

 

That will bring up the menu. It's different from Oblivion.
