Very annoying problem!!

that strobing on the wall is caused by the shadows from sunlight being updated and changing position.

there are a few things you can do to improve shadows but you will never get them perfect.

one thing you can do is start the game launcher and, in the advanced options, set shadows to medium and start the game, save and quit then open your Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Skyrim.ini and set

iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=4096

and save it

then open your Documents\My Games\Skyrim\SkyrimPrefs.ini and set

iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=4096

iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=4096

and

iShadowMapResolution=4096

and save it.

then start the game normally and your shadows will look smoother

I don't think that mod will fix it, it's more likely that keev is mistaking the problem. Some striping is caused by two shadow-casting light sources trying to draw shadows on the same object, which is what the Shadow Striping Fix, fixes.

Your striping/strobing, however, is caused by the sun updating over the course of a couple seconds. There are ini tweaks that you can use to make the shadows update instantly, so they pop into position each hour instead of strobing. It sounds annoying, but it's really a lot better. I nearly never notice the shadows switching position slightly, but I always notice the strobing.

Since I can't tell you a couple magical numbers that you'll prefer, read the first post here, as it covers the two values you change to affect shadow strobing.

I personally use these values in the Skyrim.ini:

fSunShadowUpdateTime=0

fSunUpdateThreshold=3.0

Thank you so much, TBH I was trying to find a solution to the shadow stripping as well, as I thought they were both related. Regardless of that, I have a new problem.

I have installed many mods, but only two that affect the lights in the game, realistic lights and ultra realistic light. I tried both, but since I didn't really like them I uninstalled them using NMM (same way i installed them). The thing I have noticed is that when I look at the sun my screen gets darker and when I look down again it takes about a second for the brightness to readjust. I don't know if this was intended originally or my mods have conflicted, but I don't like it at all. I guess it is sort of realistic, as when you look at the sun you squint; therefore everything gets darker. Nevertheless I want to fix this, so any help is appreciated. :)

PS: I do use realistic lighting, BUT only to make the snow, auroras, and rain look better. Everything else SHOULD be vanilla.

Skyrim is supposed to imitate eye adaptation, but for some people it goes hyperactive and becomes too noticeable. I'm not sure if there's a way to reduce it or turn it off, though it's strange that it didn't happen until you got rid of those mods. Maybe something in one of those mods turned it off?

Or it was a quiet 'fix' by Bethesda in the 1.5 update ... I have noticed this same thing recently and have never installed a lighting mod, so the only one that COULD have done it is one from Bethesda ...

OT: NPC's going bats**t and attacking rabbits and chasing goats also seems to be a new thing (at least for me) since the 1.5 patch.
