cazaam
Hey my oblivion was borrowedandnotreturned by a friend, and my computer was completley and utterly wiped so i have been of the mod scene for a while so this may or may not have been done. When i wander the landscape of Tamriel, although we often see dungeons and ruins of forts, does anybody agree with me in that there should be a lot more random places. EG castles and estates all over the show, imp breeding pits, slave farms. just Random places to loot and explore.
Vagrant0
Hey my oblivion was borrowedandnotreturned by a friend, and my computer was completley and utterly wiped so i have been of the mod scene for a while so this may or may not have been done. When i wander the landscape of Tamriel, although we often see dungeons and ruins of forts, does anybody agree with me in that there should be a lot more random places. EG castles and estates all over the show, imp breeding pits, slave farms. just Random places to loot and explore. The problem is that almost nothing, as far as locations or how areas are setup is random, and trying to make it so would be an extremely large task, and probably require a completely new, vast, worldspace. The point of modding IS to create new places. They may not be random, but they are there to add more variety to the world. On the other end of this, there really aren't many good, open areas of Tamriel which aren't being used by other mods, like unique landscapes. And although there is alot of area outside the normal borders which could be used, many are relectant to use them on the off chance that some major project which adds that provence will be created, or because it requires disabling or moving the border regions. Then there is making roads and such leading into that place, and doing it in some way that makes sense. Finally there is the whole lore issue with using these spaces. Although adding more worldspaces which can be used by modders can solve this, there hasn't been much interest outside of those projects in such a thing, and the results would likely look like an uncoordinated hodge-podge of different themes, landscapes, architectures and peoples. The modding community just isn't coordinated enough to really make use of such a space, and there would certainly be conflicts which came up because of that lack of coordination. Coordinating something like this would be nearly impossible since there would be no reason to listen to anyone who tried. If people wanted to work together, they would join teams which were doing something similar to what they wanted to do, instead of each doing their own thing. Most simply don't want to be told what they can, or cannot do, even when there are very concrete reasons for it.
cazaam
Sorry my point wasn't clear. I'm not suggesting that places are made at random, I meant it as places were individually created and placed in a set position. So they would be mapped locations not random areas. More caves estastes and castles around that would be there the same in every game is what i'm on about, so a basic understanding of interior and exterior modding is needed. If i had a better computer that didn't wipe all our files all the time and i actually had oblivion back, i might go about it myself but im throwing it out there for other people to use and have. The problem is that there aren't many good places left in Tamriel, and most who make these sorts of mods aren't doing it in any coordinated manner, and every mod has different degrees of quality. There aren't many good ones because there aren't many who have the skills, and would just leave things to a handful of disconnected areas.
