Load order? "Oblivion has stopped working" error on startup

Recommended Posts

I'm attempting to install several mods using Wrye Bash. Currently, when I load Oblivion through Steam and then click "play", I get a Windows error message that says "Oblivion has stopped working". I've tried messing with the load order some, and I still get the message.

(I did get the game to actually load earlier, when I had installed only some of the mods, but I was getting character overhaul's "install blockhead" error texture, and whatever I did when fixing that must have broken something else. Unfortunately I didn't save the load order I had been using then.)

Does anything stick out as a possible issue with my load order here?

Alternately, are there any typical newbie mistakes I should be aware of? I've read the Wrye Bash basic instructions, and looked at the pictoral guide, and I'm following them as well as I can, but maybe I missed a step. Is there anything that people often forget to do, that I could try?

Thanks for reading, I appreciate it.

Bain Packages: (By the way, is there some "refresh" step I should do after changing the order of these?)

Update: Do I need to copy/paste OBSE files anywhere in order to use OBSE with steam, or will wrye bash take care of that? (The wrye bash game launch buttons don't seem to work for me.)

By OBSE files, do you mean files from other mods that go in the OBSE folder, or the files for OBSE itself? If the latter, then yes, you need to install those manually. The OBSE folder should go in your Data folder, and everything else should go in your Oblivion folder.

Other trouble-proofing steps:

-Don’t install in your programs folder

-Make sure you have the obse steamloader dll in your Oblivion folder

-Disable Steam Overlay

-Use Steam to launch Oblivion, not Wrye Bash.
