hi Kyrenjai, just to sum up what everyone else suggested, use console commands:

 

PRID A2C94 <enter> (this sets the console to target only the 'RefID' of the existing Lydia in your game).

MOVETO PLAYER <enter> (this teleports Lydia to your location, usually in front of you).

exit console.

 

if Lydia is invisible the game may have disabled her character object, use console command:

PRID A2C94 <enter>

ENABLE <enter> (undoes disable, making the object and its collision and AI appear in the world again).

 

if she died and her body appears, use console command:

PRID A2C94 <enter> (alternatively instead of the PRID command, target her using your mouse to select).

RESURRECT 1 <enter> (resurrects target actor, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Console#resurrect).

 

a possible side effect using RESURRECT is the game may have permanently tagged Lydia 'dead'; and, as PsxMeUP noted (lol) a messenger might show up

and give you a parting gift from Lydia's will upon her death (sad), i'm not aware of any game breaking issues using resurrect on Lydia may cause.

 

also, as others suggested, either get yourself a decent follower mod to setup your followers w/essential status; or, look into the

console command here: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Console

SETESSENTIAL A2C8E 1 <enter> (sets Lydia as immortal).

Wow--I didn't expect this many responses:) TY guys for ur input. Uuuummm- I had many other quests to do---so I went and grabbed Niaa Companion and kept on playing. So, I didn't/haven't even tried to get Lydia back. Merciful--perhaps I should try to find her. Today, I passed "The Companions" Trials (not knowing) that Niaa would be replaced. Is that a permanent thing? Appears my first quest for Aleaa (sp), I'll be going alone? Will just have to see if I'm solo again or Niaa will b back at Bannered Inn or mayb after a few quests with The Companions, they will start coming along? Again, ty guys.

oh well, poor Lydia.. aren't you curious or care about what happened to your loyal housecarl and burden carrier? lol.

 

Anyway, so you completed the first Companions quest 'Take Up Arms' plus one of the other radiant side quests; and now,

quest-giver Skjor has given you primary quest 'Proving Honor'.

As a result, Farkas temporarily replaces your existing follower and will serve as your 'shield-brother' for the task 'Proving Honor'.

This is a fun quest with Farkas..

You will not be going alone, Farkas serves as shield-brother to help/supervise and observe that you complete the quest honorably.

 

Your existing follower Niaa (who's Niaa?) is automatically dismissed and goes back to wherever you originally found her (Bannered Mare Inn?).

After you finish 'Proving Honor' you can make Niaa your follower again if you want to.

 

Just a suggestion, because some of the Companion quests/locations can get bugged from other non-companion quest or location clearing activity,

it might be best if you complete all the main Companion quests before you start anything else..

I had that happen to me as well while doing the Blades quest to find the Alduin Wall. She just disappeared. I tried the move to player commands and every other suggestion. It would take me back to the location that she was lost in. I feel that she may have fallen through the mapscape or something but nothing I did brought her back. I ended up using the base ID to summon another copy of her. Thankfully I hadn't stored a lot of gear on her.

Niaa is another Companon Mod I saw. And yes, Farkas was with me. Sometimes not so helpful (lol). Niaa was patiently awaiting at the Bannered:). I just fear now if I bring Lydia back into the picture--I'll mess something else up for sure. When I had Lydia with me---Niaa wouldn't follow--she said I alry had some1. I figured u can only have 1 Companion at a time and that's ok. I've outleveled the gear Lydia was carrying anyways. But those commands I surely do need to look into. Which reminds me--u can make another toon-right? And not loose this 1? If I made a Male toon--would the Female Mods b lost or would it just b "a whole new set of Mods for the Male guy?

Lydia is supposed to level with you, as are many followers/housecarls, however Bethesda stuffed up the scripting and "officially" still haven't fixed it yet. There are many follower mods though, that resolve the issue.

 

Resurrecting Lydia shouldn't really be a problem as she has no real purpose in the game, quest wise, after being given to you as Housecarl of Breezehome, and really you'll miss her you know! And who doesn't? That quirky, sometimes annoying, sometimes silly, sworn to you burden carrier, seems to worm her way into your heart

 

 

But those commands I surely do need to look into. Which reminds me--u can make another toon-right? And not loose this 1? If I made a Male toon--would the Female Mods b lost or would it just b "a whole new set of Mods for the Male guy?

 

You won't loose any of your original mods, just make sure to create a full save BEFORE creating another toon, as all of your "quick" and "auto" saves will be over written, you won't see any female specific changes (except ones that affect female NPC's) with a male toon, so you'll need some more mods

I meant actually, u can have more than 1 toon on an account,right? Further, let's say I make another toon (Male) and I play him...and if I want to go back and play Kyren....will Niaa b back at Bannered with same gear, lvl, and stats as I left her? I suppose too, will Kyren b same lvl,stats, gear?
