Can someone make fire duration damage NOT a joke?

I'd love a good flame weapon or two, if only being covered in fire did more than tickle you. I never did understand that in the Fallout games, is all fire little more than 150 degrees or something?

 

Something tells me this would be a relatively simple change, but could it be balanced? Instead of trickling damage, what if it was all up front, like 50 damage over 1 second duration? Sure, that means foes wouldn't be on fire for more than a moment, but it would open them up to getting lit up right away again (might be OP or something). Or could just seriously beef up the damage per tick. And let this be before Pyromaniac is filtered in. Pyro perk should really set it loose. Fire should hurt greatly, to your enemies AND you. Fire should be something you fear when tossed your way. If you get lit up continuously, you should be reaching for those stims and superfoods. The player has ways of working up their fire resistance later on anyways. I've got untold gallons of fuel waiting for something worthy to come along, and I want the wasteland to BURN.
