bington2
Question - Am I correct in thinking that steam skyrim mods [or indeed any other steam mods] automatically update as the creator changes their mod and uploads it to steam. If this is the case then is there not a huge potential for conflict between mods as they are continually being modified. Please humor me if I am being.I am ignorant in these matters and this seed to be a likely place to get the answer. Cheers. Edited May 17, 2012 by bington2
jet4571
Nothing ignorant in that assessment. yes the mods auto update as the mod maker updates, and yes that adds to the potential conflict issues. There is also the issue of a mod adding new features that you do not want but you were very happy with the one you had. That's why i dont use it as I prefer to update when I want to update based on what the update includes.
David Brasher
Steam Workshop is a good idea that was executed in a laughably bad manner. The system is so fouled up that many mods cannot even be hosted on Steam Workshop. This would be things like mods with an .esm, mods with multiple .esp files, mods with multiple readme-type of documents, or mods with images packaged with them. (And it would be really nice if you could finely adjust your update settings. Maybe have it be like Microsoft where there is an "Always ask me before installing new updates" setting.) That is a must have for any auto update system! hell I can stop my AV from auto updates why not a game??? lol
bington2
Really thank you for your replies. I am seriously considering not using the steam mode utility and just other sites.I was aware of some people not being happy with steam and their choices concerning the workshop yet I had little [if any] understanding why.I understand a little better now .As much as I respect valve as company [certainly relative to other games companies] I do hope that Valve act on any justifiable criticism.
