thats the tutorial i followed, went ingame and it said its running fine (as shown in the video) but skyui wont install, says skse is not installed. same problem ive had for a bit, done a few reinstalls of the game and etc. any ideas?

The issue I had was the game seemed to refuse to acknowledge SkyUI as a plugin. I installed manually into SkyrimSE/ Data Folder, its a bsa file and an esp file.

I would enable it in the SE Mod menu, but it never worked. Long story short;

Ensure you installed SKSE64 correctly

- Launch Skyrim SE thu SKSE Application

- open console, and type " getskseversion" without the quotation marks

- if its running it'll say " SKSE version xxxx"

- exit Skyrim

-install the two SkyUI files { bsa and esp}

- in your start window search type " %AppData% then look for the Local folder.

- open the Skyrim Special Edition folder and open the plugin.text in notepad.

- you'll see all your other mods/plugins in here

- add " *SkyUI_SE.esp " onto the list exactly as the name of the esp appears.

- save the file

- SkyUI now loads and is "recognized as installed by the game"

-Profit

I am having this issue after setting up Vortex for the first time and importing all my mods over from NMM.

For the record, Skyrim SE (with SKSE) still runs fine when I launch it from NMM.

But when trying to run it from Vortex, I get this issue with SkyUI.

Furthermore, and yes there is more... when I click on the SKSE Tool on my Vortex Dashboard; I get an error at the top that says "Failed to Run Tool".

I'm stumped, because I've been at this for 2 days now, and I followed the steps precisely on this page: https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Tool_Setup:_Script_Extenders

Then there is also the fact that SKSE runs just fine with no issues when I launch through NMM, which clearly implies that SKE is installed correctly and running correctly...

So again, I'm completely stumped here.

I resolved the issue ...

For me at least, it is resolved.

On the Vortex Dashboard look for SKSE tool, and click on the 3 dots and select "Edit"

For me, Vortex was adding an extra folder name to the directory under Target and Start In. I deleted the extra folder so it would now only look within the root Skyrim folder.

Now everything is working fine for me.
