Skyrim and SSD's

Thor.

Recommended Posts

@Morwyn Kelm, thanks for the tip on SuperSPEED,

looks like a great product for those of us that prefer not going the SSD route at this time and

want the performance benefits of running Skyrim from a RAMdisk.

thanks again.

back in the day, i used to run disk intensive applications like AutoCAD and games from RAMdisks.

i understand Microsoft has somekind of RAMdisk utility and the driver is in the dev kit somewhere,

they probably decided not to include this feature in windows because of added support headaches.

anyway, Thor., sorry for going slightly off topic about ramdisks in your SSD centric thread.

me want ssd :(

Me too...

At least after waiting a couple more years there'll be a chance at getting a larger SSD with a much longer lifespan. They're still fairly new, considering how long people have been using conventional HDDs.

I've got an SSD but didn't install Skyrim on it for the size. I've freed up some space on my SDD now though so I was wondering if it's possible to copy/paste my skyrim folder from my current disk (D) to my C disk (ssd) without many problems, or do I have to reinstall it completely and change the location that way?

(also doesn't it interfere with steam usage if both of them are on different disks?)

That program seems awesome so far, I can fraps on my D: drive and play from C: - which is the SSD - making the fraps captures a LOT nicer - I had some HDD thrashing while horse-riding and frapsing before.

NMM keeps trying to revert back to the D: path for skyrim however - even if I change it manually..

I think I'll uninstall NMM/BOSS and reinstall them..

Edit: All working perfectly, much faster, thanks again bben

I'm fidling around with that program but I keep getting an error, I'll try working around it but it's not going well :'(

(my steam folder is on my HDD and I need to move that to my SSD apparently, although I don't really get why this would be the case)

I keep getting Error running "xcopy /E /V /I /F /Y "D:\Games\Steam"" C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam"". ErrorLevel=4

I checked the error and it says, invalid path or not enough room. I've got room and the folder should exist so I'm kinda stuck :(
