The Warsaw Pact was the military complement to the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (CoMEcon), the regional economic organization for the socialist states of Central and Eastern Europe. The Warsaw Pact was created in reaction to the integration of West Germany into NATO[3][4][5] in 1955 per the London and Paris Conferences of 1954,[6][7][8][9][10] but it is also considered to have been motivated by Soviet desires to maintain control over military forces in Central and Eastern Europe.[11] n the Western Bloc, the Warsaw Treaty Organization of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance is often called the Warsaw Pact military alliance—abbreviated WAPA, Warpac and WP. Elsewhere, in the former member states, the Warsaw Treaty is known as:Albanian: Pakti i miqësisë, bashkëpunimit dhe i ndihmës së përbashkëtBelarusian: ÐÐ°Ð³Ð°Ð²Ð¾Ñ Ð°Ð± дÑÑжбе, ÑÑпÑаÑоўнÑÑÑве Ñ ÑžÐ·Ð°ÐµÐ¼Ð½Ð°Ð¹ дапамозеRomanized Belarusian: Dagavor ab druzhe, supratsoÅnitstve i ÅzaemnaÅ dapamozeBulgarian: ÐÐ¾Ð³Ð¾Ð²Ð¾Ñ Ð·Ð° дÑÑжба, ÑÑÑÑÑдниÑеÑÑво и взаимопомоÑRomanized Bulgarian: Dogovor za druzhba, satrudnichestvo i vzaimopomoshtCzech: Smlouva o pÅátelství, spolupráci a vzájemné pomociSlovak: Zmluva o priateľstve, spolupráci a vzájomnej pomociGerman: Vertrag über Freundschaft, Zusammenarbeit und gegenseitigen BeistandHungarian: Barátsági, együttműködési és kölcsönös segítségnyújtási szerzÅdésPolish: UkÅad o przyjaźni, wspóÅpracy i pomocy wzajemnejRomanian: Tratatul de prietenie, cooperare Èi asistenÈÄ mutualÄRussian: ÐÐ¾Ð³Ð¾Ð²Ð¾Ñ Ð¾ дÑÑжбе, ÑоÑÑÑдниÑеÑÑве и взаимной помоÑиRomanized Russian: Dogovor o druzhbe, sotrudnichestve i vzaimnoy pomoshchiUkrainian: ÐоговÑÑ Ð¿Ñо дÑÑжбÑ, ÑпÑвÑобÑÑниÑÑво Ñ Ð²Ð·Ð°ÑÐ¼Ð½Ñ Ð´Ð¾Ð¿Ð¾Ð¼Ð¾Ð³ÑRomanized Ukrainian: Dogovir pro druzhbu, spivrobitnitstvo i vzaêmnu dopomoguhe founding signatories to the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance consisted of the following communist governments: Albania (withheld support in 1961 because of the Soviet-Albanian split, formally withdrew in 1968) Bulgaria Czechoslovakia East Germany (withdrew on 2 October 1990 after dissolution of state) Hungary Poland Romania Soviet Union Mongolia: In July 1963 the Mongolian People's Republic asked to join the Warsaw Pact under Article 9 of the treaty.
