CTDs at the workbench (or when picking up stuff) are mostly due to two causes:

1. missing meshes or other assets (not missing textures, they just lead to purple meshes) from certain armors

2. Borked installation of AWKCR and/or Armorsmith extended.

The general approach would be to go through your mods affecting armor/clothing and disable them in packs of 5 or so, until the CTD goes away. Then re-enable the last mods you disabled, until you find the real culprit.

Maybe you can shorten this procedure, although this is just guessing from me:

"Concealed armors" for whatever reasons overwrites parts of AWKCR with outdated files of that mod. So, reinstall the current version of AWKCR first and see, if this already fixes it. Maybe also reinstall Armorsmith extended.

You could also see, what armor pieces exactly make your game crash and find out, what mod these pieces come from. This will also narrow down the list of possible culprits.

P.S: Just a friendly reminder, since you're new to these forums: Maybe use google next time. Your problem is a very common one and there are already a lot of threads on this subject here on the Nexus and elsewhere.

Had the same issue last week and as said by Algabar, it'll be Concealed Armour causing your crashes because it uses an very old and out of date version of AWKCR that it force installs and will overwrite your more up to date and current version of AWKCR, which then breaks mods like Armorsmith which are updated to use the latest version of AWKCR. As Concealed Armour has not been updated in forever and is no longer being supported by the author or any other modder, you're best off removing the mod from your installation and using an alternative such as UCO (Ultimate Clothing Overhaul) by AndrewCX which offers the same function as Concealed Armour and more, but is still in active state, being developed and supported by the mod author.

I already did all of this and couldn't find a solution. It seems that Concealed Armor didn't really do it. I disabled the mod and it didn't do anything sadly.. I will delete the mod however and see if it does anything

Disabling Concealed Armor on its own after installing it won't fix your problem, because as I said it overwrites files from other mods with much older and out of date versions. After un-installing and deleting Concealed Armor, you would then need to install AWKCR again and Armorsmith to overwrite the files changed by Concealed Armour with the new and correct versions.

Thank you. That seems to have fixed it. One more crash I have is that sometimes when I'm entering areas or loading, the game crashes. Any idea what mods could be causing that one?

If it always are the same areas, there might be a mod issue in these spaces. If it's rather random, it could simply be a memory issue. Scenarios where there's a lot to load sometimes make the game crash. I experience that, too - although only in very rare cases.

If you don't use an ENB already, you might consider it - or simply using "ENBoost", if you dont want graphical changes:

It's not the "wonder weapon" against everything, but it might in fact help with performance and stability.

Thanks I'm going to install ENBseries and I'll let you know

EDIT: I crash in the same area every time. Must be a mod issue. It's to the right of the Square in the area between the Cambridge Police Department and the "Find the Caravan" quest. I can't imagine what mod it'd be.

EDIT2: I went back to my base and waited 24 hours and came back and it didn't crash anymore

Ok, I don't get it. AWKCR 7.4 and earlier work without "featuredItem popup CTDs". Why can't the new versions of AWKCR, which still crash, be compatible with VR when the earlier versions 7.4 and backwards still work?
Is there any news from the outreach to the Beth community manager that you mention?

Thank you

PS. There is no alternative other than the older version of AWKCR. I detailed in my previous post how Vis-G incapacitates the pip-boy.

"Damn, Bethesda screwed you hard.
They didn't use the same formIDs for ap_armor_Paint "Paint" [KYWD:0024A0FA], cc_ma_Pipboy [KYWD:0024A0B8], cc_ap_Pipboy_Texture "Material" [KYWD:0024A0B9], ma_WeaponMaterialSwaps [KYWD:0024A0D7], and ap_WeaponMaterial "No Material" [KYWD:0024A0D8], in Fallout4VR that they did in FO4."

Mismatched formID's are killer, and we've reached out to the Bethesda community Manager, Cartogriffi to see if something can be done about this.Until then, well, we have kind of gotten borked...

I find Awkcr and armorsmith to be kinda annoying how an update often means patches no longer work or crash the game. I don't feel the need for all those workbenches and craftable items myself, I think Horizon adds enough if you play a Survival type game.

But, there are mods I really like that depend on these mods. I am not too sure how to move the craftable items I do want to keep over to Horizon workbenches, or a new Horizon bench I make myself. I have been working on experimenting with this though, swapping Awkcr with Horizon keywords for armors etc from other mods like The Mercenary Pack. Seems like Horizon has most things Armorsmith has except colour swap.

You can see here with the assualt Gasmask, In my patch I have removed the AEC keywords and given it the Horizon keywords for linings, upgrades etc. I left the colour one there but will probably remove it. I don't see the need to craft a whole other bench just to change the colour of the mask. https://imgur.com/a/l4twxk0

Here in this shot you can see a craftable item that is required to be made at an armorsmith bench. https://imgur.com/a/okJeuTf I want to change these to be crafted on the Horizon bench to remove Awkcr/AS dependency. but will need to test this. Horizon seems to craft most things at one bench only called a Robotics Lab.

But there are 3 or 4 other Workbenches in the Esp listed as Obsolete. I am wondering if I can rename an utilize one, make it craftable in the workshop and use it for any mods that require Awkcr.. I haven't checked since the recent Horizon update if they are still there though.

Basically remove it, clean the masters and then run my game without it. idk, maybe its a necessary mod for a smooth game but to me, it seems to cause issues, and generally, just adds too much to the game for me.
