ShAd0wC4t
Have you all ever considered trying to get hired by Bethesda? Have you tried? Why not? I mean seriously the creativity, and skills shown in the Elder Scrolls modding community would get at least some video game companies' attention. lnsentience
Companies want diligence before creativity. Creativity costs resources and money. If Bethesda wasn't limited to whatever budget they had or wasn't limited to one CD, they'd make Skyrim so good, that modifying it would be pointless. Rennn
Many of the best modders here probably do use modeling, virtual art, etc, professionally. There's a reason why independent games are getting so popular now though, companies generally restrict creativity and freedom in favor of profits. While people developing independent games also try to turn a profit, they're usually going to be in the business because of their inspiration and creativity. Rennn
Companies want diligence before creativity. Creativity costs resources and money. If Bethesda wasn't limited to whatever budget they had or wasn't limited to one CD, they'd make Skyrim so good, that modifying it would be pointless. I'm pretty sure they made a fortune off of Skyrim. Yes, but Skyrim wasn't creative. It follows the same formula that worked in Oblivion, FO3, and FNV. If they'd move past 2007 and be creative, they'd risk losing money. They played it safe and added moderate, tested improvements to Skyrim, and therefore, as expected, had good sales. Skyrim is a great game, but's still basically Morrowind 2011 edition. The CryEngine 3, for example, would allow Skyrim to be played in fully open destrcutible environments, with DX11 effects, with no load times after booting the game, with better graphics, with even more character interaction. I don't know if the CryEngine supports much modding, but I'm just using it as an example to show where Skyrim would be if they weren't so fixated on safe sales.
