Danman804
To specify, I have an idea for a proactive merchant's role in skyrim, as a viable playing style for making money. Simply put, player could have an animated horse drawn cart and/or horse with packs loaded that he can lead to travel between various towns and cities. These things could be scripted to carry a shipment of somekind (100 imperial swords for solitude from markarth, for instance, or 50 gold and silver ingots from markarth to riften) that can be purchased from and sold to certain merchants in the city. This could be made so that player must travel on foot the entire way, and perhaps scripted attacks by bandits or certain factions that doesn't want the shipment to go through (for example, imperial weapon shipments could be attacked by scripted stormcloaks), and frequency, deadliness of such attacks could be randomized to a reasonable level. The capital required to buy this shipment, and potential profits could be randomized and regulated, but in the end, I would like to see anything from small time (500 gold for capital, 800 for selling, hence 300 profit) to big time BULK merchant deals (20,000 gold for purchase, 30,000 selling, or even more!) with dangers and attacks scaling accordingly. Basically, animated pack mule/cart and numerous deliverable goods of small-time to big time contracts as sort of radiant quest to deliver from point A to point B, with randomized scripted events in between. Fast travel maybe disabled, or if enabled could have a very high chance of losing shipment to attacks and possibly getting a bounty on one's head for failing to ensure delivery. Later on, maybe one could add insurance agents, more in-depth quests involving intricate faction involvement (General Tullius or Ulfric requesting transport of specific goods, with appropriate rewards as well as possibly bonuses for success), i.e. think of thieves guild improvement questlines but with merchants and delivery instead of thievery, and upgrade of 'merchant's guild'. However, it must be emphasized the core of the experience is dealing with capital to buy the goods and defending it on the way to destination from random events to ensure profits of varying degrees. In short, I would like to see more intricate economical improvements to current skyrim's simply buy/sell after looting, since it can get a little tiring and repetitive. If this is possible at all, I would greatly appreciate any modders taking up such a project.
