Using a xbox 360 controller with oblivion

Recommended Posts

Hi Troy,

That was an awesome guide and actually got my xpadder fully working.

My main issue now is, xpadder lets my controller work as mouse and keyboard on my desktop but when I run oblivion, having set it up to buse joystick 1 AND 0 and having disabled mouse attack in the game, oblivion does not detect the controller beyond being able to move with the left stick and all four shoulder buttons making the pad rumble. I cannot get it to work.

I can confirm i am using an official 360 controller and the default windows drivers for it.

Thanks for any help. :3

Also, sorry for the necro post guys, I just realised how dramatic the date differences are between last post and the one before.

You didn't necro I did by mistake.

No worries Shotgun,

I notice that you actually have xpadder working, perhaps you know what I am doing wrong? My pad is doing exactly the same as it did before setting up xpadder. (left analogue only works). xpadder is configured corretly and when on my desktop works fine.

I don't understand why it won't work in the game.

So load up xpadder and click on the gamepad icon and select open.

Navigate to your Xpadder folder (\Program Files\Xpadder) and select Xbox360.xpaddercontroller and check what it looks like it and upload a picture of it because I can't show you one of mine. p.s I use WeGame which is made only for games so thats why I can't.

I followed the intructions posted at the top of this topic to the letter but not working when i run the game. Anyway, this is a screen print of my settings.

Or not as I cannot get a pic to be less than 250k that displays anything legible.

But I used the downloaded controller config which was linked in the second post in this topic. It is all mapped correctly, and all the keys work fine on windows desktop.

In game though, nothing at all works aside from the left analogue.

I had this problem before but I don't know how to fix it this time I just got lucky so google how to play oblivion with a 360 controller and try all of the different ways and hopefully one will work.

Edit: ok Angelhearte with using the xpadder profile added in the second post and

"having set it up to buse joystick 1 AND 0 and having disabled mouse attack in the game... "

I dont know what mouse attack is but if youve set it to "bUse Joystick=0", xpadder wont work either but this means youve got two seperate controller profiles working at the same time. The two stick controls are no problem as theyre the same as the xpadder profile, so just need to delete the button mapping by choosing each one and pressing esc

Also the game might not load the Joystick access if theres no controller connected when Oblivion first loads; which'd show in the "controls" part of the menu, with the Joystick look/move greyed out.

so solution is open the xpadder profile & turn the controller on before starting the game. hope it helps

I'm not sure if anyone is still having difficulty getting xpadder to run, but if you are in Vista or Win7 then it might help to start xpadder with administrative privileges. In addition, as nisen said you should remove any controls that reference the 360 joystick as there will likely be some overlap whenever you press some of the buttons; i.e. clicking in the left stick might make you sneak and open your journal. However, don't remove any of the controls that point to the keyboard or the mouse as xpadder works by remapping the necessary keyboard and mouse buttons to the buttons on the 360 controller.

Hi I was having this same problem as well, Oblivion would not let me do anything but move with the left stick.

My problem was that I was launching the game through Oblivion Mod Manager, once I launched it through the default oblivion launcher it worked... almost, every button on the controller works fine except attacking with the Right trigger. I have turned off the mouse attack and it still doesnt work and I wonder if it might be a compatibility issue with a mod, but I dont have any that modify cotrols.

This might fix your problem if you use OBMM, but if anyone could help me play anything other than a mage it would be appreciated.

Great config file! Works very well. I did change a few things...

I made the left and right trigger also "shift+left or right" to change pages in stores and i also made the up and down on the control pad (the arrow keys) turbo to make scrolling pages easier. i still cant click in a continer or store without it closing... which sucks but i can deal with.

Thanks a ton

Hey I'm new to Xpadder and I'd like to know HOW do I set the Left and Right Triggers to scroll between pages? Because I dont know how to set a button for more than one thing?, so if I set the Left Trigger for BLOCK i dont know how to set it for scrolling through in the journal

Yo,

I have done all that has been asked yet for some reason my triggers make my character move to the side, very slowly. and after i press them down, my character can only move very slowly. The triggers still do what they're meant to (attack, block) but my left trigger makes me move right and vice versa. whats going on!?
