Quick Question

Hello, just a little confused about something here. The mods I've downloaded from the Nexus are working fine but I tried to change a few line of dialouge in the GECK (don't worry, its purely for my own enjoyment, I've got no plans to distubite them or take credit for other people's work) with them. It all seemed fine, I changed them, saved, but when I went back on the Geck the changes I made vanished, even though they didn't with ones I made to the vanilla game. How do I alter the mods, or is it not allowed?

You either can use FNVedit to edit your mod. or use fnvedit to.. set the 'master' flag in the header of the file you wish to make a mod for.

Geck is the only program that listens to the 'master' flag, and it listens to it by: Refusing to open master files for editing (clearing it in fnvedit fixes this), and totaly ruining your mod by removing the non master file from the masters list if the masters flag is not set.

Setting the master flag on a mod does not seem to harm it in any way (that I know of..) btw and you don't need to rename it .esm and once your mod is made, you can give it to others and the other mod does not need to be changed to be master as long as they don't edit your mod in geck.

Bit of an update, the file I was trying to change wasn't marked as a master file itself, though it was connected to one. Would removing the mater flag on it help? Also, when I tried to change data like the stats of an NPC who came from a mod in the Geck it created a duplicate where said changes existed rather than altering the orignal like one for the main game.
