Ssean Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I have done everything. I have been trying to fix this for 3 days now. I don't know what to do.
Ssean Posted May 23, 2012 Author Posted May 23, 2012 (edited) Could you post your system specs and load order? Computer is an iMac, dual booting windows. Before a reinstall (I am new to mods) of steams entirety to documents rather than program files, Fallout 3 ran fine. Specs: Intel Core i3 540 3.07 ghz32 Bit Ati Radeon HD 4670 Load order? I do not have a mod manager installed currently. Edited May 23, 2012 by Ssean
Werne Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Install FOMM (It's practically mandatory to have when using mods for Fallout, mostly because of integrated BOSS, ArchiveInvalidation and FO3Edit launch), open it up, go to "Load Order", select "Copy to clipboard" and paste it into your post.
prensa Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Ssean - Hello! "Fallout 3 Freezing 20 seconds into gameplay" Sounds like the Fallout 3 multi core bug. Fallout 3 has trouble with multi core computers, mainly with ones that have more than two cores & use hyperthreading. You've got an Core i3 so that's dual core & could be affected. "I have done everything. " Does that include the .ini fix for the multicore bug? It resolves the freezing completely. You need to edit your Fallout 3 .ini file & it has to be the one in: For XP: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3\ For Vista & Win7: Documents\My Games\Fallout3 The file you want will be called: FALLOUT.ini Open the .ini with Notepad & change this line: bUseThreadedAI=0 to: bUseThreadedAI=1 & insert this line under it: iNumHWThreads=2 Save & close your ini. Hope this helps! Prensa
Werne Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 (edited) @prensa Intel Core i3 is a dual-core processor, it's just a newer version of Core 2. Fallout 3 runs fine on dual-core processors, has problems with quad-cores. Edited May 24, 2012 by Werne
prensa Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 (edited) Werne - Hello! "@prensa Intel Core i3 is a dual-core processor, it's just a newer version of Core 2. Fallout 3 runs fine on dual-core processors, has problems with quad-cores." It seems to be more the Hyper-Threading that's suspected to be the problem. Some people with quads have reported no trouble if they don't have Hyper-Threading or have it disabled. I'm pretty sure most Core i3 Intel's have Hyper-Threading, combined with the random freezing of Fallout 3 Ssean is having, it points to that bug. The .ini fix is worth a shot, if it does not fix the freezing it can always be changed back. :) Prensa Edited May 24, 2012 by prensa
Ssean Posted May 25, 2012 Author Posted May 25, 2012 Hey guys, sorry for the slow reply, had some issues at home. I was able to fix the freezing issue through an edit on the ini file. Thanks for the speedy responses, I really appreciate it.
