Random Infinite loading screens

Recommended Posts

The title says it all.

It never happens on loading the game on the main menu, it happens 80% when I load a save in-game, and other 20% it happens randomly (interiors, fast travel ect)

It's not a huge issue but it can get very annoying. Nay help would be appreciated.

Don't see anything obviously wrong with that load order (only 95 active plugins), but the "merged plugin" files might be masking something. However, any problems with those probably wouldn't be causing the "hang" upon loading reported. OTOH, if you have altered your "load order" since building them, you may need to consider if any of the new plugins might need to be placed in-between any of the "contiguous" plugins of any of the "merges".

Bear with me as I work through my checks for the common sources of these sort of problems. (Might help someone else, and helps me keep track of things I've considered.)

* My initial query would be: are you using the built-in game autosave mechanism? (Most common reason for the infinite loading screens with save games.) But I see you have "CASM with MCM", so that's unlikely. Though much depends upon whether you just used the default MCM settings or customized it. (Personally I think the default settings are not so great, but that's another wiki article and I don't have any hard evidence to back up that opinion. Tough to prove a negative.)

* Hmm. You say "it happens 80% when I load a save in-game". That sounds like you aren't routinely exiting the game to the desktop before loading the save game. Please see 'Fourth Rule: Reloading "save game" files' entry in the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article.

* Next: You say you are using NVSR, but not that the problem is causing an actual "CTD". (A "hang" is actually an "infinite loop" in that it is waiting for a response from the file I/O system that isn't coming. Not that much different from a CTD: the system is "out to lunch" because it doesn't know what to do.) Still, please see the 'Issue: CTD after 10-20 minutes of play (post-Win10 2017 FCU)' and 'Issue: CTD without warning, "Out of Memory error", or stops responding after the Main Menu' entries in the 'Solutions to "Crash To Desktop" (CTD) problems' section in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide.

* The game has "memory leaks". Getting 2-3 hours before a CTD is pretty good. You might want to try using the tool "Memclean", which periodically (you can set the interval; default is every 15 minutes) tells the OS to perform it's built-in "clean up" of memory. It has a "mini-monitor" that displays memory usage. Doesn't seem to hurt and might help.

Let's see if any of those help you.
