mushroombat Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Hello. I use FNIS(the latest versions and its main plugins) however I keep getting a strange errorFNIS Behavior V7.4.5 7/17/2018 11:48:20 PMSkyrim 32bit: 1.9.32.0 - c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\ (Steam) ERROR(5): Access to the path 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users\temporary_logs\skeleton.hkx' is denied.I have tried:Moving it out of the C driveMoving it out of Program files(x86) and Program filesDisabling AV(BitDefender)Disabling UACand Running FNIS generator and HKXCMD as Administrator both at the same time and one and the other(meaning one was admin the other was admin and finally both tried as admin.) If you require any further information ask and I will happily give it.Kind regards, BatP.S. the access path changes Constantly
fore Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 MOVING things in and out will not change a thing. You move permissions with the files and folders. You should install outside of C:\Program Files (x86) from scratch. Which mod organizer do you use? NMM "direct"? NMM virtual install? MO2? MO? There are mod manager specific ways to mishandle installations so this error can occur.
mushroombat Posted July 18, 2018 Author Posted July 18, 2018 I have tried installing with NMM, MO2, and manual in my F drive. I thought it was the Fdrive at first so I moved it back to c drive and it proved to give the same result, error 5.
mushroombat Posted July 18, 2018 Author Posted July 18, 2018 Post thought. Is the easiest fix to fresh install?
fore Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 You switch between NMM, MO2 and manual without fresh install? Meaning you MOVE files between different mod organizers, and between "C:\Program Files (x86)" and a different drive. And then you wonder why you get access violations? Of course a new install. But make it systematically. Start moving the whole Steam to a different location, NOT "C:\Program Files (x86)". Do it according to the Steam instructions. And then use ONE mod organizer. And stay with it.
mushroombat Posted July 18, 2018 Author Posted July 18, 2018 I actually had it installed on the F drive first. I used NMM, and when I added a new mod, I went to FNIS like I usually do and now have this problem. But ok, I shall install it. Thanks for the help.
fore Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Do you have NMM Virtual Install? Then these errors occur if you manually remove FNIS from NMM's mod folder.

You have to be more specific. For example, I read in another thread that you are installing manually. You don't use any Mod Manager? What happened BEFORE you got this error the first time. I'm not interested in how you installed that other mod (EAD), that has nothing to do with it. I'm interested to find out how you handled (or probably mishandled) you FNIS files before that. Can you make this error go away: by closing FNIS, and starting again? By re-booting Windows? Are there two user (accounts) on your PC which use FNIS/Skyrim? Also go exactly into that folder which is listed in the error. Is that file still there? Can you remove it? Can you rename some arbitrary file from somewhere else, rename it "0_master.xml", and move it into that given folder?
