LOTD - Legacy of the Dragonborn SE - CTD on Reading Chair in Library

Hello everyone.

Hopefully you can pull a miracle for me here, because I've lost some hair trying to fix this today.

If the title wasn't enough, here is what happens. LOTD - After sorting books and using the catalog in Legacy of the Dragonborn, the user should be able to sit in a chair and have books appear in their inventory until they get up. This occurs by use of a prompt that comes up on the screen.

What happens for me currently: Prompt comes up, I hit Yes, instant CTD.

Fresh save worked for a limited time [coc'd my way in the library and loaded a few books for testing], and then the issue came up a few levels later with no changes to settings or mods/mod order. To be clear, the few levels later was on a save in which I played legit and did not warp into the library for testing.

What I've tried: Reinstalling LOTD and the relevant patches. Reinstalling SKSE. Reinstalling SkyUI. Rebooting my computer. Resettings prefs with BethINI. Ensuring the recommended plugins are cleaned per Vortex

Specs: R7 370 - i5 4430 8GB RAM - decent enough SSD - should be capable of running the modest setup.

Have you posted this on the LOTD mod page? The mod is well supported and you should get good advice there

Well, I tried that and some guy just outright deleted it. What is the point of having a forums and a comments that are interlinked if you are only supposed to reply on comments? How confusing and not clear at all based on the available permissions. That's incredibly user-unfriendly. That makes me not want to become a paying member at all.

So, I know the user is now banned, but I just thought I would chime in here to explain our side of the story, just incase anyone stopping by sees the ops last reply; over on the LOTD pages, we prefer users use the comments page to reply, since we get so many posts it is very difficult to keep track of posts made via the forums, the comments page keeps things much tidier. There was no animosity on our part and the deleting of the post (which was one that could be easily retyped at that) is what we do with all forum posts, we then requested the user post via the comments section. The user wasnt singled out, we asked if he could repost it only to be met by a rant about how we werent doing our jobs properly and should step away from the mod because his issue was clearly not his own (even though we couldnt replicate it) and we were taking out frustrations on him. The user was basically very rude, and from his post on another mod page it seemed like a trend. Nexus clearly seems to agree with this explanation as he is now gone.

 

If anyone has any issues they would like to have us take a look at regarding the mod then they are of course welcome to come ask (via the comments section of course ;) ), thanks folks :)

Ok so I know this is basically a dead thread, but I experienced this and found this during play involving the Legacy of the Dragonborn. I donât expect a reply or a fix because after testing Iâve somewhat figured out what my issue was? Itâs weird.

 

So I picked up a book in the Safe House called âDragon Language: Myth No More.â I noticed some of the text was glitchy but didnât really think about it (glitchy as in on one page, it was overlapped/running together with a previous page) at the time. I had just a few books in my inventory and went to sort them.

 

The first time, when the glitch occurred, I was putting all the books I wanted to sort in the book return without visiting the prep station first. Sorted, updated list, went to read. Crash. Well I thought it may have been a fluke or perhaps I didnât wait long enough for the sorting/updating to finalize or something, so I just tried it again, sat down to read, crash.

 

I thought perhaps it was a spell book I had that I hadnât read so I gave that to a follower, put the books in, sort, update list, crash.

 

So, I then decided to use the prep station first, then sort the leftovers. Prep station caught âDragon Languageâ only. Only thing it took from my inventory. I thought âok, must be because it needed to be sorted this way and not the other way.â

 

To verify, I reloaded and tried to replicate the crash... it would not crash, but when put in the book return to sort, then updated the list, âDragon Language: Myth No Moreâ would not show up in the reading list. âWeird...â I thought. So I reloaded and went the prep station route again. âDragon Languageâ was taken, sorted the rest of my books via book return and catalog sort and updated list, âDragon Languageâ is in the reading chair list and everything seems to be in order.

 

To be fair, I am running other mods, Iâm pretty far in my playthrough, and I cannot begin to tell you what else may be at play here. But that book in particular seemed to be at the center of whatever issue I was having with the crash and then the less inconvenient just random disappearing act.

 

Again, donât expect anything to come from this post, just wanted to throw it out there in case knowing which book or perhaps the process that I went through to weed out the problem helps someone else with this issue.
